Saw a guy named Corby Yates and his band play at Chukchansi Casino (in CA) tonight. He plays silhouette specials. Watched him play some blues, some grungy stuff, and flat out hot hard licks all in one set on one guitar. I was amazed by the range and tone he was able to get out of this one guitar....amazing! Any comments on the versatility of the silhouette? For those that own one, what style of music do you like to play? Also, as I just purchased an Axis Sport....delivery due in a day or so.... I'm curious about what you think on how the Axis compares to the Silhouette in terms of overall tone and versatility? What a jam session...I'm stoked!

Hey pokerman, welcome to the forum, and congrats on the Axis purchase! I'm a huge Axis fan, myself (got five of 'em), but keep a Silhouette Special with a H/S/S pickup config in the stable too, and I agree that it's a super versatile guitar. I think the H/H config. Axis Sports are damned versatile too, but the hotter pickups with the Ash body give the Axis a brighter, more contemporary tone than the Sil. Spec., which sounds more "vintage-y" to my ears with it's Alder body and tamer pups. I actually have an older Axis Sport with exactly the same pickup configuration as my Sil. Spec. (H/S/S, but different pickups in each guitar) and the guitars sound very different.

Corby is an unreal player for his age. I have worked on his SLSP before. GRUNGY! He plays here in San Luis Obispo sometimes, but we haven't seen him in a while. If any of you get the chance check him out..Sort of an SRV Voodoo Blues vibe.
