Hi all, am pretty new to the forum... am the original owner of a '79 Stingray (bought with my paper route $ at the age of 16) and just became new owner of a StingRay 5 (very gently used - practically mint) that I just received last week... S/N is E13802, and according to the Serial Number link at
http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019/, the color is Silver and the bass dates from April of '00...
However, the bass does not appear to be a straight Silver - it has a slight tint to it and actually looks a good bit like Egyptian Smoke, but it is kind of hard to tell based on the various pix I've seen of that color. Yet from what I have found on the 'Net, it looks like Egyptian Smoke did not exist in 2000, and I don't see where Silver was a standard color at that time, either... and as I mentioned it does not appear to be a pure Silver in color (like Inca Silver) anyways... any ideas..?

BTW, the back of the neck has a beautiful birdseye maple pattern as well. Matching headstock, too, with a black pickguard. Used it on my gigs this past weekend, and it played like a dream...

Yes, posted to the Serial Number thread, and Dan (5stringer) also wrote that the color is Pearl Platinum... what a beautiful color. He also wrote that the color was discontinued in 2001 and replaced by (the ill-fated) Gunsmoke...
here is the bass (pic from seller)...
