I just coludn't love the stock sig pups in my Y2D and tried every pup in my parts drawer. I ended up with a set of zebras from a guitar Co that I won't mention:p But the single middle pup was also considered changing. I measured it but the coil length is the size of a HB not a typical S type pup.

Anybody know where I can get a stack, rail or mini HB in that size?

What I want is a hot HB tone for soloing in that spot (the subtle tone added from being just a little forward is:eek:) and also not have the hum. I tried using it like Steve at the lower height so it cleans up a bit without touching the volume knob, but that just isn't how I play. I'm a creature of habit and rolling back the volume for clean tone is just second nature to me:cool:

I could really use that pup spot more if it had a hotter pup there.

BTW: Totally love the guitar. The neck is perfect and the creme binding and the new zebras are to die for

I've tried a ton of singles in the Morse, but not the Y2D. Obviously size is much more of an issue there.

Since Dimarzio makes that single, why not ask them for the dimensions, and whether they have a noiseless p'up they can wind you that'd be the same size?

shredhed,
I too recently acquired a Y2D and I just don't can't get into the sound of the pickups either. What style of music do you play and what pickups did you settle on? I'm in love with the feel and look of the guitar, but the sound isn't quite up to par for me.

I was playing the Y2D today, and found out that the single coil has a strange sound, not "noise" but as if it had some kind of static in it...

For those of you who haven't dug into the specifics on the Y2D it has 250k pots. So the HBs are muted sounding a bit. The bridge is a really bright pup anyways and that together with the maple cap makes it too bight for my taste. The 250k pot just makes it sound worse IMO (and to be taken as such)

I now have a 500k volume but left the tone pot the same( I did un-connect the tone pot to see if possibly that made a difference - it didn't, so I left it in).

I settled on a set of HP Special pups. At first I was trying out black bridge hummers only (Tone Zone, Duncan Distortion, Kramer 1984 pickup, and I even switched the Morse sig pups ie: bridge to the front and front to bridge, but when I finally decided to try the PV pups (I had actually been saving the set for another project...) I decided to put both in cos I thought just one zebra would look stupid.

I also had a wood shim in the trem cavity for dive only. Also it increases resonance. Well, I have a 1960 cab with G12T75 speakers and the bass resonance was already a bit overpowering already from those spkrs. So I unblocked the trem and it sounds better floating (funny - that's the first time I've had a guitar sound better floating)

I found it a bit odd that today with the array of single pickups available that Steve would pick a regular single pickup for the middle pup. I mean why have one that isn't hum cancelling? Anyways I think it sounds the way it does bc that's what sounds good to Steve with his rig. I do appreciate that it is the same size lengthwise as the humbucker next to it. It woulda looked pretty silly with a regular single in there.
