I like the "family tone" idea and believe that the musicman bass arsenal all have a specific voice that I can't get enough of.
Granted I've only played the basic sterlings, rays and a bongo, they all have that nice deep crispness, all capable of destroying what's left of my ear drum while being super clear and refined, I've shook the crud out of my windows while still getting sizzle
Now that's something.

I really want to keep my Bongo, its hot. I think I might go for drTStingray's suggestion and get a standard Ray. I'm gonna go try a standard Ray out next week.

Glad you're keeping the Bongo - and best of luck with the test run. I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a used 'Ray for a reasonable price - or you could look out for a Sub, or even get an SBMM Ray 34.

Actually I'm gonna both keep my DDII Bongo and get a Classic Ray 5 as well. I'm currently living in England and I'm moving to Atlanta in August and I'll buy the Classic when I'm in the states, I can afford it then. £1900 in the UK and $2000-ish from Bass Central for a 5 string Classic Ray. I really hate instrument prices here.
