How good are the single coil humbuckers? Are they as bold as their larger brothers or a bit on the thin side.

I am asking this as i would love a silo hss, but there are a lot of sss on the market. Would this mod helpe out?

Never heard of a single coil humbucker, but I have heard of stacked humbuckers. Never tried one, though.

Silo Specials are routed for a HB at the bridge. I just sold my old HSS pickguard to someone interested in converting his SSS to a HSS. It's an easy conversion. Just need the appropriate pickguard and a standard humbucker. Virtual PAFs (stock in silo specials) are readily available.

I'm using a single-spaced humbucker in my hamer. It's a DiMarzio ProTrack, and to be honest with you, I don't think they're nearly as thick sounding as their "larger brothers". I have this pickup in the neck position, and in my opinion, it sounds way worse and has less output then the neck humbucker on my JP6.

Mmm I think Candid is right - didn't h/b's get their name, because they "bucked (cancelled) the hum" by having effectively 2 single coils together?

I have stacked humbuckers in my Tele - a Bill Lawrence and a Seymour Duncun and they are much hotter than a stock Single coil Tele - in fact it is a lot hotter than a standard Tele.

I guess he actually meant single spaced humbucker (a humbucker that fits into the single coil socket)

My dad has a DiMarzio Tone Zone S in his old Fender Strat, sounds as good as the hum-sized Tone Zone in my Ibanez. Different (it's a totally different guitar after all), but good as well.

the purple Silo special that goes between me and Dr.Bob has a JB jnr in it now (was sss) and we both agree it rocks big time
I'm just as happy with the sound of it as I seem to recall I was with the stock Dimarzio in a silo 24 fret HSS I used to own.
