Tonight I restrung an old non-EBMM bass, as a daughter of a friend of our family showed some interest in the most noble of instruments and I immedeiately lent her above mentioned bass.
Anyway, when I had put the Slinkys on (45-65-80-100) the intonation was way off. Fixing that I realized the slinkys need less compensation than any other strings I have had the pleasure (or lack thereof) of using. The G does not need comp at all, and the E got about 2 mm!
I don't know exactly who designed the core/wraps on those babies, but that someone did one hell of a job!

And you just have to love a company that doesn't make taper-strings:p

My favourite stupid argument for tapers was this: "With taper-wound strings the string get closer to the pick up, thus yielding higher output." Maybe, maybe a few fries short of a happy meal there, no?

Slinky's are good... that they are. Played SR2000's for the longest time and Slinks kick butt all over 'em

After a small trip, I came back. Something magical about the mix of slinkys and mm.

I swear elves must work at the factory.

I kept the original Slinkys on Heinz for the longest time....years. I really grew to love the sound of dead Slinkys.

And now....let's not let this get out, okay? We all know what my preferred string is, but here's a shocking fact. I strung my Sterling with Slinkys and I like it. The Big Poppa Bongo is (and shall always be) strung with Slinkys, and I like that, too.

Now my band is not a roundwound lovin' sort of affair, but I don't always play with them. Sometimes I just hang out at home and play along with whatever CD is floating my boat at the time.

So look, this is hard for me, but yeah, Slinkys rock.

the there goes my reputation,

Jack

Any forumites that come in get a free set of slinky's from the popster

I just wish I could find someone willing to order me a set of EB flats for my 5 string Bongo. :(

One place in Atlanta took my number over a month ago and said they'd call me when they showed up. Haven't heard from them since.

I really wanna try some Slinkys but have no idea what the gauge is on my current strings :D

I am hopeless - bass does need restringing though... this is why I love this place - it reminds me to do all these things I'd forget to do otherwise.

Having said that I've never restrung my guitar... eeeeep!

the "secret" strings are the EB Stainless Steel Super Slinkys. I literally have 10 packs of those at home ... and 5 Nickel.

I was a die hard DR hiBeam guy but the Stainless Slinkys sh** all over my old fav string. A Sterling w/ Stainless Super Slinkys is punk rock pick tone heaven. Cant say that enough!

:)
