I just tried to put a set of Regular Slinkys on my G&L L2500. Turns out the fat part of the string doesn't go far enough up the string & the skinny part is resting in the nut. Anybody else have this problem?

From what I see here there's one thing I don't understand.

Are you saying that the string isn't long enough? or whether the string won't sit right on the saddle and the nut?

Is the Slinkys the same gauge as the previous set you used?

More info about the problem would definitely help.

Cheers!

I would have to guess that the G&L either has a longer scale length than 34" EBMM basses, or the strings take a longer route to go through the body or bridge - the EB strings fit the EBMM basses just fine!

EDIT - scale length is the same 34"

That is the problem.....it's a thru-body but it's still a 34" scale. The problem is on the thick strings (B & E) the thick part of the winding only goes up so far & scales down for the tuning peg in between the 1st fret & the nut.

Already did.......liked the feel but wasn't crazy about the sound.

I can tolerate G&L necks, althought I find them slightly thicker/chunkier than my rays, and they sorta feel "plasticy" or laminated to my left hand. And for some reason I have trouble getting each fretted note to stay in tune, almost like one fretted note is a little flat or sharp. Maybe it's just my intonation, but I never that that happen on other basses.

As for the tone, I find that even with all the selectors and nobs, it still only has one tone I can stand. Even through an Eden rig.

Plus, this POS is a burst the color of baby vomit...gerber carrot baby vomit.

This is an army bass that was "issued" me to on arrival at my band, and I gotta say it's quality level is right up there with government cheese or possibly the fake eggs they use at the chow hall.

O well, at least it gets beat up on tour and not my beautiful rays.
