Hi:

I've been playing my EBMM Petrucci signature for almost a year and I notice a few weeks ago that the neck humbucker is weak. I can feel the difference when I'm playing with the bridge humbucker. Is like the humbucker loosing power, I don't know...

Anyone can help me with this?

Thanks

Most likely the pickup is O.K. I would check out the pickup switch to start, it may just be a little dirt in there. :)

Check the toggle switch? If it is dirty or the wiring is loose on it you can get that "effect." I've had that happen to me on my '67 Flying V, it was both dirty and a little loose!

How can I clean the toogle switch?

pup wiring?

what about if you change the battery?

Battery only has effect on the peizo, the pickups don't need the battery to funtion properly.

Clean the toggle switch might be a good idea... It might be going bad as well... not sure how to clean it..

I cleaned my toggle switch by opening up the back cover of the switch and wiping down the contacts. Then I put the cover back into position and bent over the tangs to hold it closed again. I'm not sure what a JP toggle looks like. If it is "open" then you wouldn't need to remove the back, just simply wipe down the contact points. A small amount of grease is normal, it lubes the switch and keeps it from wearing down from hitting the contacts.

Sounds like it might need a blast of contact cleaner....switches and volume knobs in humid coastal/island locations like PR can get all gunked up, for sure.

Radio Shack has it in various forms, and I they have some PR locations...or any good electronic and/or hardware store should have it in stock if there's not one nearby.

Here's a link their product rundown - try the store locator in the upper right corner:

Good luck!

I had the same problem on my EVH and the problem ended up being that one of the windings on the pickup broke and the signal was really weak.
I broke a string and it got into the pickup winding somehow, when I pulled it out the winding broke.
The only solution was to either rewind the pickup or replace it.
I had to replace it.
I hope this isn't your problem but it might be worth a look to see if there is a broken winding.

I use tuner cleaner to clean switches and potentiometers. There should be a small hole in the switch somewhere, just spray some cleaner in that bad boy and work it 6 or 7 times back and forth. Do the same for the Vol. and tone potentiometers if there scratchy. DO NOT USE WD-40!!! to clean anything electronic.

Got the humbuckers measure...

Got my guitar to a guitar tech and he measure the AC Resistance of the humbuckers. The bridge humbucker was giving 13. something and the neck humbucker gave 11. something...

Is this the correct measurements for those humbuckers?

I just got an answer from Scott at Ernie Ball... Very nice customer support...

He said:

Angel,

The bridge pickup should read 13 or 14, and the neck should read around 11. So it sounds like your guitar is perfectly within our specs!

Regards,

Scott

I hope this help you guys too...
