Yet I am almost always playing on the Sub  Am I crazy? The Silo is a great sounding, great playing, and insanely sexy guitar, but there's just something about the Sub that keeps me playing it.

Anyone else relate?

Yep, you're crazy. ;)

I play my SUB1 once in a while (I did take it out for a few hours last night), but once I grab the Silos again I quickly forget about the SUB.

But, you like what you like.

Nope not crazy you just have a guitar that is perfect to you and we all have those or need those, now if you said, Fe-n--r or something I would give you directions to the mental hospital:D

the Sub is a great guitar.
Because of the difference in pickups, I'd bet you play darker sounding music.

I really really really want to try out a Sub. I love Music Man guitars, and if I could find one at a good price in a few months.. I would pick it up. :)

Not necessarily dark music, but I do prefer the sound of the Sub. I'm a metalhead, but not into death metal or anything like that, and I love to play many different styles. In my little world, metal is Metallica, Megadeth, Rob Zombie, Judas Priest, Static-x, etc. To me it has a perfect tonal balance. Is it the poplar I wonder? This thing just has a nice, big and full sound that I've never gotten from another guitar. I wish I knew what the pickups are similar too, since you can't really get them without a guitar attached :p

the sub is cool but mine came w/o stock pickups. it has bill lawrence xls so im guessing mine is more aggressive and less versatile :( there is, however, no way it is taking time away from my jp except for when i need alternate tunings. but then again its used and needs a setup

I agree 100%. I play it all the time. Mine is setup so perfect it is unbelievable. It rocks. I prefer it over the Luke for fast metal rhthym.

This pretty much sums up the SUB1:

Could it be due to your picking arm? The sub doesn't have a contour, so there's a different feel to it when picking. Your picking angle is very different. If someone threw you a JP6, you'd feel off. If someone gave you a Morse, you might be home. So maybe it's a matter of time for you to bond with the Silo? I had to bond with my first 20th (which didn't take very long) from the JP6, and now I'm fine with both, though the JP6 is most definately more comortable on the right arm, but the Silo is more comfortable for the left hand.

Could part of it be you're afraid of hurting the pretty Silo, while you can recklessly beat on the Sub?

Had to laugh at my kid when he was out visiting with me. He was so afraid to scratch or hurt my shiny autumn redburst Silo Special that he just couldn't get into playing it.

Heh... most people forget how tough Poly finishes actually are. If you don't use something sharp and deliberately try and don't knock it hard against something else, it's actually quite resistant to damage...:D

Jazz III picks can be that dangerous

I personally don't think of the Sub as an inferior guitar to the Silo, just something different with what happens to be cheaper specs, but cheaper just price-wise. If you found your voice on the Silo, there's nothing wrong to it, the other way around, congrats!
