To bring back some on topic material to this thread:
IMO, the S is not useless at all! Naturally the output of a single coils is lower than that of two coils (just check out the singled out coil from the H in position 4). However, aside from the classic SR sound of the H at postion 5, I like the "Jazz" combination of position 2 with a single coil from the H plus the S best.
