So, as you may have seen from my earlier post, I have a big outdoor gig on Saturday, and I'm debating whether or not to bring a second bass...

I hardly EVER break a string, and I know the odds of my Sterling failing are about the same as winning the lottery, but what do you guys do for a large gig? (Meaning that 5 minutes to change a string or trouble shoot an instrument is not an option.)

Other stablemates that could make the journey are a P-bass and an Epiphone T-Bird (that was formerly No.1 for gigging).

One thing to bear in mind is that switching from the Sterling to either of these passive instruments requires some serious re-setting of the amp...

I really want to minimize that stuff I have to set up and break down.

So whaddya think? Should I chance it?

With such a momentous occasion you should commemorate it by purchasing another MM to be used as backup.

Famous Last Words!

" I 'almost' never break a string "

Trade the P and the T-bird for another Sterling?

I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF THAT! Oh my God... You guys are geniuses, !!!Can I? Dare I? Can I placate my wife? Are they worth enough $ to get close to a Sterling? Wow...you just opened a whole new line of inquiry for me!

In the meantime, I think the P-bass is making the journey, but will probably stay in the case...

A new Sterling for a back-up....hmmmm....

A Hum-Hum Sterling for a back-up....HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

if it's a real ThunderBird, you should be able to get a pretty penny for that alone. maybe even get a used sterling straight across. you never know until you try!

I wish it was, my friend, I really do...

Actually it is an Epiphone I bought a couple of years ago to play on stage in this band that did some pretty heavy rock originals. It's a bolt on, and really doesn't sound like a real T-Bird, but for the what they are, they have a good sound and a cool look. I took the pick-guard off of mine and put on vintage gold knobs, so it looks kinda different. I think they have actually raised the price since I bought mine. In any event, it's probably only worth $200-$300...
