I went to my local GC but it only has JP's in stock. Need something a bit wider than my current Axis SS.

thanks...

Not the AL, Axis is the thickest and JP is the widest I believe but someone else chime in and confirm or correct me............

The JP is the widest at the nut 1-11/16" but the thinnest thumb to finger.
The rest have similar nut widths 1-5/8"
Albert is probably the thickest thumb to finger with a C shape.
Axis is thick similar to AL and has an offset carve that is very comfortable
Morse and Silos are a bit shallower than the AL
Luke has a V
Hopr this helps but descriptions can only go so far. Feeling is believing

I can't quantify it with numbers but I think that the assymetric carve on the Axis makes it feel a tad less chunky than the Albert.

As a side bar to that I've just been playing an Axis Supersport which I presume is newer than my Axis as it doesn't have the recessed neck plate, and whilst it has a similarly assymetric neck profile it does feel noticeably thinner front to back than the Axis.

Anyone ?

The recessed neck plate was featured early/mid 90's but didn't last too long. There has been no change to the Axis neck spec'd profile since its inception as far as I know. But there is the occasional claim on the board that two of their same models have somewhat different feels. Usually chalked up hand finishing, use over time, moisture retention of two different pieces of wood, or its just all in your mind. :)

That's odd...my 2000 Axis sport has the recessed neckplate. (I like it too!)
My 2 Axis do have SLIGHTLY different feels but then again, I'm more finicky than Morris the cat (right Jon?;) )

My Axis (with the recessed plate) is a Dec 97, I've not got a date on the Axis Supersport.
As I said it's not that the profile feels different, It's still very definitely an assymetric Axis neck profile.
It just feels like there's a bit less of it !
I wonder if it's got anything to do with the Supersport having a Rosewood board and the attendant different manufacturing process to the all maple necks where I believe the fingerboard is sawn off, the truss rod installed and the fingerboard is glued back on ?
As for it being in my head, quite possibly but is there any room left in there what with all those voices ?:D

Maybe they lasted longer than I recall reading in previous threads:confused: . I thought they ran from around 95-97 or so. I remember BP said he liked them but they became an issue due to manufacturing issues like finish build up in the pocket and buff outs, as well as owner/outside techs overtightening and cracking the finish.

Not the first time I've been wrong:D Maybe someone official could chime in for dating purposes.

why do i have the feeling the Albert is just the greatest guitar I dont have? It seems so perfect for me. i'm so jealous of every one who has one. why do i have 4 super sports?!?!?!?!

Just think Robelinda - you could sell me that gorgeous honeyburst of yours and then you'd have an open spot...!

well, i never say never......if the right Albert came along and i had no money, you never know.

hey guess what? I had a dream last night i was at an Albert clinic, but there was no Albert Ernie Balls!!!!!!!! He was playing these weird jazzy guitars, and he was aying how he would never play them, and he didnt know why his balls werent around. Then someone walked in with a grey AL, and i got to play it! great dream.

it played very dreamy too ( ha ha sorry )
