Does anybody here plays or played MM guitar through a Soldano amp? If yes, what can you say about this combination?

Second part of this question goes to Pete DuBaldo, cause surprisingly he is both the closest Soldano AND the closest Music Man dealer to where I live. Pete, what's your current stock of Soldano's? More specifically, I was looking to try Astroverb.
Thank you.

I have tried a Soldano before with my JP at a local GC. Very nice....wanted to buy it, but, my wife says I have too many "toys" as it is. I currently use Line 6 Vetta II and use the Soldano amp for quite a bit of my presets. I also have a POD and use the Soldano as well. It goes by another name in Line 6, but, it was based off the Soldano lead amp I believe.......I like 'em.

SLO would be very nice amp, but i like littlebit more bass-end sound... Bogner Uberschall is another great amp. It has tremendous kick.

Go listen to the Van Halen - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge CD, the majority of that is an EB/MM through a SLO-100.

Again, which Soldano do you have? SLO?

Thanks, but I'm not looking for VH type sound. Rather I'm looking to be able to get Dream Theater type sounds, AND something close Arch Enemy/Carcass.

Don't know about Arch Enemy/Carcass, but if you're looking for a Petrucci like tone, I'd say you need to be looking at Mesa Boogie, the Triaxis or I think lately he's been using Roadkings.

I have a Mesa DC-5, which sounds close enough to DT for me. Problem is that it doesn't have enough gain, and it doesn't like to be pushed with pedals. So I'm looking for something more high-gain.
Roadking or Dual Recto would probably do it for me, but they are way out of reach moneywise. I did not fall in love with Peaveys, so I'm considering Soldano Astroverb.
I know it won't have enough gain of its own, but many reviewers say it doesn't mind being pushed with a pedal.

I used to play a Silo through a Soldano HR50+ as my primary rig. There isn't much better for sound.

Is that the Line 6 Vetta II combo or head ?

how do you like it?

I am thinking of getting the head

I have the combo. Do I like it? ABSOLUTELY....best thing I bought. It is extremely versatile and gets as close to the amps it models as far as I can tell. I am no amp pro, but, I have found my tone and the Vetta was the reason.

I just happen to love the versatility of it.....I can program any tone and save it. Use the shortboard and bring it up at will.

Just a note- as far as I know, you still have to buy the floorboard seperately. It may have changed, but I bought mine last year. So, keep that in mind.

I currently play an Axis and a JP through a Soldano HR50 with a depth mod and it goes through a Bogner 2X12 cab. It is amazing! I think you will really like it. The thing with DT is, which tone era are you going for? I noticed a difference in tone from Ibanez to EBMM.

And the JP is a bit more "breathy" (is that a word?) than the Axis. The Axis is much more smooth, rich and creamy than the JP, but the string definition is much less than the JP. A cool thing to do with an Axis is to replace the pot (since there is only one!) with a push/pull so you can get single coil sounds as well. I've done that with both my JP and Axis. Nice tonal variety.

Good luck with the search!

I can say that yes I have played MM guitars at the shop through a Soldano of some sort to test them out before they hit the wall. Soldano amps, by nature, are not very forgiving - any mistake or sloppiness you make/have will be heard. That said, they sound great with Music Man guitars - especially Axis and JP models :) I haven't tried out the Luke through the SLO yet, just in the Lucky 13. The on-board reverb in that amp kind of muds the tone of the EMGs though

I personally play through an SLO-100 w/ matching 4x12 and I love it.

We have both an Astroverb 112 and 212 in stock, along with a Reverb-O-Sonic and Lucky 13 50w combo. My SLO-100 with mods is available for test-drives upon advance notice. The only guitars I dont have in stock right now are an Albert Lee, a Silhouette Special, and a Steve Morse (last two both on order for May/June)
If you decide to stop in, please call/email ahead. We have 2 stores here in town, and I would have to find the amp/guitar ahead of time for you, since the inventory has been known to migrate :D

The smaller amps take a stompbox quite well, the bigger ones have no need for it, so I've never tried it. I ordered an Astroverb with a special 6v6 tube conversion for a customer a few months ago, he runs a distortion pedal in front of it and loves it. I just got a "thank you" email two weeks ago with him raving about how good it is.

Thank you Pete! Given that I'm not gonna go insane in the next 2 weeks, I'll be sure to stop in. My last final is on Wednesday the 18th, so 19th or 20th seems like perfect time to me. As I already mentioned, I'm interested in Astroverb, but I'd be happy to try Lucky 13 as well. I'll probably bring my SUB1 with me. So should I just give you a call a couple of days in advance?
