I'm in a position to get this one here. I've never seen one without the maple top. How rare are these anyway?

I believe they turn up fairly regularly. Not as often as the regular line, but I still wouldn't consider it rare by any means. The great thing about EB is the resale value. Buy it, and if you don't dig it, you can probably resell it on ebay and come really close to breaking even.

The Axis Sports were all Ash bodied. They come up quite regularly. Great guitars. For comparable used prices you can check the sold items on eBay.

I just picked up the same exact finish, with a white pick-guard and ssh config, on ebay a few weeks ago for <600 if that helps. Mine has a rosewood fretboard. I may have to pick up a clear pick-guard like that (hopefully it's not a tub underneath the guard). The grain on mine is nice, and it looks like 1 solid piece of ash, so I should show it off.

Condition of mine: A few little dings on the tip of the headstock but the rest is in fantastic condition.

Slight hijack: If anybody knows about how the ssh axis pickup config is routed, I'd love to know so I don't have to remove it unless I know I can get a clear pick-guard.

The Sport's wiring is routed through the body. If you want to have a look, the pickguard isn't attached to anything, so you can take it off even with the strings on and check out what's underneath.

Sports are great guitars....and no swimming pool routes so a clear pickguard is no issue. Think of the routing on a Luke if you want an idea of what it looks like under the plastic!!

Thanks guys, yeah I have a Super Sport right now. Just a great guitar, and it's one of my keepers. I like the fact that the Sport I'm looking at has a maple board,as my ASS has a rosewood board. The thing that gives me a little pause is I'd be trading an 82' Hamer Special for it. I got the Hamer for an insanely good price....about half of what it's worth, but I'm thinking if these Sports pop up for around $600 or so, an even up trade might not be the smartest move.

I feel great about the price I paid for my new AS and it's distinctly different than my ASS. It's a keeper!

But, I thought I got a steal at my price. I can't imagine they don't normally go closer to $800. Am I completely off thinking that way?
