Pretty self explanatory here.

Lately I've been trying to get out of a rut playing. I play mostly blues and metal and I remember from the HW Clinic that Luke mentioned forcing yourself to try new styles of music or other artists that you may not necessarily listen to regularly.

So I'm posting this, because I know so many of our forumites have such diverse and eclectic backgrounds.

Post some solo's, songs, or riffs that you feel would be useful to any guitar player's arsenal.

Tasty Stuff Please!! :D

Thanks in advance!

I've learned quite a few EJ songs, and Tommy Emmanuel I love! His music just intimidates me. Haha

From the other artists, you got any songs you would recommend specifically?

Garsed - his Big Sky cd, magic. Also his 2 instructional dvd's are just the best out there. Great teacher as well as great player.

Verheyen - his Intervallic Rock dvd is awesome.

Mason - Hot Wired cd, plus about 20 years and 1000's of session work!

Albert Lee - his instructional dvd's are great watching, but takes hard work to study his style.

Definitely add Andy Timmons' 2 cd's "That was then this is now" and "Resolution".

Also, Vinnie Moore's "Meltdown" , "Out Of Nowhere" and "Defying Gravity".

Might as well add Johnny Hiland's debut cd full of great tunes tones and tricks.

One thing you can never learn from a book is timing. Get some beats to jam with when you practice plus it makes it so much more fun.

IMO, it's more important to understand a solo than just playing it note for note. As you learn the solo, try to determine what scale, arpeggio, or notes are being used over the chords and how they interact. It will really help you with improvisation.

the guitarist who influenced me more than anyone was Luke... I was 15 years old in 1982 when Toto 4 came out and it changed my life.. I was floored by Lukes playing and its been the same ever since...

over the years the players who have really got me were Michael Landau, Dann Huff, Paul Jackson Jr and Larry Charlton... for me it dosen't get any better...

the most recent player to catch my attention is a guy named Tom Bukovac from Nashville... totally amazing..
