How would you guys attack this issue: high E string, between - say - 8th and 15th frets, slight fretting out / buzz on full tone bends? Not completely choking, just a bit of buzz.

Action isn't low; in fact, I'm planning to make it lower. Fairly straight neck, not much relief.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

There's an FAQ? :D:D:D

Alright, I'll see if I can find it.

Then I'll fix it.

Then I'll post pics!

Hrmmm. So, you'd think more relief? Less? I guess I could just try, but was looking for what a tech would try first... :)

I'm no tech by any means, but this is what I generally do.

First, I'd check the neck relief- use a straightedge on the lower frets or fret the string at the 1st and 15th frets and look for a tiny gap under the 7-9th frets.

If it's straight I'd then adjust the saddles to the desired height. Everyone's different, but I like to get it in the 2-3/64ths range at the 12 fret (with the string capo'd/fretted at the first fret).

Once you get the height to where you want it, check out the buzzing on bends. You're bound to have some, but you can add in a bit of relief or raise the saddles slightly to accommodate.

Buzzing, no prob. Fretting out, bad. Just find what feels right to you. If you can't get it where you like it then send it to a good tech (Jon or Tommy) to have them look at the frets.

How worn are your frets? In my experience, frets at lower registers tend to become indented from fretting chords, while frets in the upper registers tend to become flattened over time from bending strings.

If you've got the right amount of relief on the neck & notes are still fretting out, this could be the reason.

New JP7, received this week. It's only noticable from around 8-15th fret, high e. Can be avoided by picking *extremely* lightly, whereas my new JP6 doesn't do this at all.

I've tried both loosening and tightening the truss rod this afternoon, adjusting the bridge to level and tuning in between tests as required. Still no love.

Perhaps I do need a tech...

Note: I have no fret buzz anywhere on the neck at all. This only happens with bends.

Maybe you just have a frety that needs to be leveled. A good tech should be able to fix that pretty easily.
