I love my Pearl Redburst to death, but I might (not definitely)swap out the bridge pup to another Dimarzio. My choices are amongst these:

Tone Zone
Air Zone
Steve's Special
Breed

Any input from the penut gallery (of course you may suggest others....)

Thanks.

Funny...my Pearl Redburst had different pups in it. I use a Dimebucker at the bridge and a SH-58 up on the neck. Of course, I happen to like the Dime and it will rip. Works for me.

You get it used? It seems in the lead position to sound a tad less highendy. I might go with an Air Zone because the Neck is really close to an Air Norton. Steve's Special maybe ust a bit to bulbous.

No, I had a Tom Anderson with one in it. I was always a fan of hot pups. I just wanted a different sound and tone. It really stands out. Even in music stores, people notice the difference right away. Not too highendy, it can get away from you, but I have my processor and amp set up so it rides in the pocket. It nice to switch guitars and not have to program another bank to support it.

I never tried the ones you are talking about. Might have to make a trip to the store to check them out. Who knows, my next one might get one of those put in it!

May I suggest you become the first US guitarist to try Bare Knuckle pickups.

I'll admit that they're not cheap as they are handwound and matched, but I recently installed one of their Miracle Man pickups in a guitar of mine and it blows away every other pickup I've tried, which include 20 or so DiMarzios (used to work for the UK DiMarzio distie :D), half a dozen SDs and a couple of EMGs.

The definition in tone is superb, they have lots of clarity even when used with high gain and clean up very well too. They have more low mids than the Petrucci bridge unit, but don't get muddy and the highs cut through without being too shrill.

Check out This website. I don't think they will disappoint!

I'm condisering a set for my JP.

I understand what you're saying and I too am a huge DiMarzio fan, but these units really are something special.

If I had a way of recording audio clips to show a comparison, I would do it!

P.S. The guy that makes them also has a matched set called 'VH2's. They are instant brown sound!

Nice! Heard about them on a telecaster forum awhile back, peeped the site a few times too. For me it's less hassle to go tone zone on this one since the wring colors are the same...hehehe. I'm a lazy American! :D

Hehe, I too am lazy, but I managed to work it out!

Once I have Pornband (Let's be honest about why ADSL was invented) and some webspace, I'll endeavour to record some soundclips of the Miracle Man.

Lol. Bowks man you're one funny dude.

Since I'm tight on the beans, I'm gonna stick with the Dimarzios, but those Bare Knuckles might be cool in the future (wink wink). I like the old school artwork on their site too funny.

I'm repeating myself again, uh oh, but it's probably gonna be a tone zone (which is the orignal pup JP used incidently PG uses them too) I like the neck pup, just want something a tad different in the bridge.

Always important to have that middle ground covered in the rack! HAHAHA! Speaking of which what are you using for processing? I was toying with the idea of getting a G Major or Rocktron unit since they all but discontinued the Line 6 rack pieces, and they're going for insane prices now on ebay.

sh-58 Jazz? I have a Jazz in my tele in the neck...that puppy rawks! I need to wire it like the JP with the coils switched I have a diagram that shows how you'd do a dimarzio that way (with a tele switch not that DP-wowowow switch in the JP) and I also have the Color Chart for competing pickup brands.

I suspect the SUB (if I get it) and 7 string will get the same treatment.

Theres an idea....a 7 string SUB!!!! Jon, get on that....hehehe.

I put a Steve's Special in a Les Paul that I had for a while. In that guitar it sounded great! The thing about DiMarzios is that they are real sensitive about what guitars they are in. What sounds good in a Les Paul may not sound good in a Strat style guitar. I will say that it did have an excellent sound when I used it.

The bridge in the JP is pretty close to a steve special IMO.

I'd say get a Evolution! :D

In any case... I'll buy the old pickup from ya!

Yeah, the Sh-58 Jazz in the neck and a Dimebucker at the bridge. Kinda of different, but works really well for me. I might take a chance at one of those Bare Knucks....Looking at getting another Pet last night, so we'll see.

I am a bare bones (some call it lazy) when it comes to my gear. My processor is a Boss GT-6. Does everything that I want. I have thought about a rack system, but I just don't have the patience to re-do my sound and what not. We'll see. ;)

I tend to dig tone zone quite a bit. Probably due to the fact I had that and the norton in a guitar years ago that was easily the best sounding axe I ever played...until the DG Pet.
