Hi all, I've got a few questions about some stingrays.

I've had a bit of time with some basses, and here is one thing that rises to mind:

when I am playing the HH model slap style, I find that I don't have much room for my finger to pluck between the edge of the fingerboard and the pickup on 5's, and I find that this forces my thumb onto the fretboard, which isn't a comfortable slap position.
I'm wondering if this is an issue with my technique or simply hand size, or whatever.

Next question pertains to the HS models. Do these have more room between the pups and fingerboard?

next would be: what is the difference between a HH 4string and the same configuration on a fiver? I've found that the 4's play much differently (besides the obvious missing string) and sound a bit different, beyond wood characteristics. I find I like the four's feel besides missing the five string, and that it appears to have that extra bit of slap space. this is all just from the GC basses I've played.

I was also considering purchasing an HS model, then finding a way to raise the pup up sorta like this guy did:

wondering if that would work for a 5.

Finally, I'd like to know your thoughts on all the configurations.

I know its a lot of questions to ask, but I wanna be sure I know my bass even before I buy it, and I really appreciate anything anybody has to say.

Most people here would agree that a slight change in technique is what ya need, and some will say that it was never a problem. I had to adjust my technique to use the single H, as I was used to slapping precisions and jazz's with pickup covers on.

Not sure about space on the HS, havn't had the pleasure to play one yet.

You'll love the tone of all three models! Not sure if SR5HH's are wired series or parallel - but the single H is the only one that can achieve both + single coil. This is my favorite config for the SR5 - I'm sure others will chime in.

Welcome to the forum, dude! Enjoy your stay!

On the HS models, there is a little more room afforded to you than the HH. You may just need to alter your technique. I mostly fingerpick when I play, and when I switched from a Jazz (sat on the neck pickup a lot) to a Stingray 5, I had to alter my technique (and still am), but I've found that I've grown more comfortable with it. I feel you have to get adjusted to any instrument you play or plan on playing and work on adapting your current technique into something that will work with your instrument.

As for the H/S/S, I don't think they make the HS models like that anymore. Someone from CS would have to chime in on that.

Zak, 08 HH and HS Stingrays are now all AlNiCo and wired parallel. Previous ones were wired for series.

thanks, fellas. That helps quite a bit.

I guess I really just need somebody that knows what they are doing to walk me through the product. GC was probably not a good place to find that.

I've got a jazz bass background too, so that's probably the issue with the slap stuff.
