My first Big Al to be specific. I haven't been able to get this bass off my mind since they first showed here in the Chicago area. Played a few last week when I was picking up a Stingray 5, and I almost bought an Al as well. Long story short, I'll have it in about a week, and I have a feeling that my vintage and not so vintage passive alnico basses are in for a thinning.....

Black on black w/ rosewood. This is pretty basic for some, but I think it looks extra subversive with that combo!. And of course we can always change up those guards very easily if one likes.......

Thanks fellas, I'm really excited about this model, maybe even more than the Bongo! The layout isn't quite as daunting as it looks, and I am more than happy that ALL of the p/u combinations are useable. Like it was designed by folks who actually play basses, lol!

I strongly urge anyone who's curious about where the bass can still go from the tried and true formulas, to take one of these for a spin. A very nice companion piece to the Bongo, and another great example of just how passionate and driven this company's is.

BP, Dudley and the rest of the team have done it again...bravo folks, bravo!!

That is a nice duo Paul, have you done any recording with these yet?

Speaking Of Big Als...

I played my first show last night with it!

And today wanted to come make some videos of all the tones you can get with them.. But ended up just recording some bass covers...... Badly...

Seems I have that redlight disease. Cant play when the cameras recording. I was so off on some of these..

As told to me by Brandt, It makes a GREAT studio bass. After practicing with it a few times and playing a show. I really want to get a single pickup bass..

Its got too many options!!! LOL I'm still more of a simple single pickup kind of guy, but this thing has so many tones..

If I think hmm I want a smooth tone, what do I do? There is so many options and different kinds of smooth with this bass. Do I use the 3 AND 2 coil? Do I just use the 2 coil? Should I use all three and roll off some treble? Should I use 1 and 2 and roll of some treble? Should I use 1 and 3?

Ok I want something pick playing bright agressive. Ok do I want P bass bright agressive 2nd coil? Do I want a humbucker kind of agressive in the p location? 2nd and 3rd. Do I want a stingray kind of high mid agression? 1and 2 or do I want the 5th type of agressive tone. Passive 1st coil soloed treble slightly rolled off or active with a slight bass boost.!!


ITS UNBELIEVABLE AND HONESTLY TOO MUCH FOR ME..

HAHA and this is the most embarasing part. You say hmm I need a little boost in bass and a slight cut in low mids. You turn the knobs and think perfect!!! Only to look down and realize your in passive.. I have done this too many times, its really hilarious because you swear you actually hear it, but its just your ears playing tricks on you.

Yes, it is unbelievable. Not what I expected at all, but better. When I purchased this, I believed it to be a production black w/ black guard. This is what showed up a few days back:

The neck pickup on this thing is killing me!!! Fat ass old school 60' hollowbody / meets modern razor hi-fi... I could live here for a while....
