I have never used one on bass. Have you? What's your opinion?

I used one briefly...maybe incorrectly, but I was considerably more impressed with what my SansAmp NYC Bass Driver did for my sound than the BBE.

Again, this is just an opinion.

I play naked...only thing between my bass and amp is cord, (or wireless)...I don't need no stinkin effects.....

The BBE is great on bass. Comparing it to the Sansamp BDDI is kind like apples and oranges IMO. Sansamp is a tube amp emulator and the BBE is more similar to what the Aphex Aural Exciter does. If I remember correctly is uses some kind of delay to realign the low and high frequencies resulting in more apparent low end and perceived volume without actually adding more gain to the signal. Anyways it's a good clean boost if your amp is kind of lacking. If you have something like a Stingray and and an SVT Classic then I wouldn't bother........

yup, the Sonic Maximizer box is a good little unit, reasonably priced and does give a bit of a nice "mastered" sound to your bass.I do however find with most pedals like this that if the knobs are put past noon too much then you start getting too much of the processed sound in a nice way.
but good pedal none the less.

Ahem...unless you're playing directly through a power amp (no preamp), or your bass amp is truly transparent...

...you're not getting 'pure' bass tone from your bass.

This is why we have Ampeg/GK/SWR/etc. preferences.
