has anyone ever used one of these?

i play through a 5150 combo...i thought that amp had some balls, just stock. i couldn't believe the difference with the sonic maximizer! it made that amp come alive! it has 5X more low end crunch than before!

a really neat effect! best $200 i ever spent!

i was probably the lat person to discover this great effect, just want to share my enthusiasm! :)

I´ve a pro 19" rack Version from 1990 , used it with my rack system but it changes the midrange too much and makes the signal too V-shaped (scooped) for my taste so it´s in the shelf doing nothing.
If you play at home great but in a band you interfere with Bass and keyboard too much.
And you loose the feel for pure sound a bit , just like you loose when always tuning with a tuner.
Just my opinion. But have fun with your toys.

Brent, I use one in my loop on my 5150 1/2 stack, so I understand your happiness x2.

Twice as loud, twice the speaks, just as effective.

BTW, OT: weirdness, yet happiness is...typing this post and reading the boards while onsite doing computer repair, billing a client at 110/hour.

Getting paid for reading and posting on the forums...can it get any better? ;)

I use an Aphex guitar exciter... pretty good sound, some quality issues... need to try the sonic maximizer. I GREATLY prefer the sound of my guitar with the exciter....

The BBE sounds great when you first get it but you will see soon that it is just an EQ and that a 6 or 10 band EQ will give you more tone shaping possibilities and will make your amp come alive as well, mine sits in the rack for now but the EQ is in the loop of my head -

I have to agree with lock-ny.

I find Sonic Maximizer's like the 'Loudness' button on a car stereo; it's like "hey that's cool!" at first, but soon you realize it's just sort of boosting everything.

Personally, I find them more of duct tape solution for a non-existant problem than anything really useful.

But that's just me. :)

I've been using a BBE since 1992. First on guitar and then on bass. Works great for both. It's kind of amazing that no matter how good you think your rig sounds the BBE will make it sound better.

I used have one when I was a rack guy, been long gone now, I miss it though, I know its just a glorified eq, but I think it added some magic...... :D
