Hello Everyone. I just thought I'd take some time here to make my first post on the forum and say hi, introduce myself. Fellow guitarist here on the east coast, and I've been playing for over 15 years, influences ranging from Petrucci (of course :D ) to Yngwie, to Michael Romeo, Jason Becker...yeah, shred pretty much lol. But I do love, and play others types of things as well, gotta round things out and be diverse as you can. I'll have sound clips (and guitar pics of course) at some point down the road.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new Pearl Redburst Petrucci with Piezo, Dot-Inlays, and Matching Headstock. After playing really only Ibanez for all these years, it will be a nice change of pace to try EB. I've played the Petrucci a few times before, and I fell in love with it, so I decided it was time to "make the purchase." I have no doubt, it will be one of the smartest instrument purchases I'll ever make. I've been reading the posts on here since I ordered the guitar, and I must say it seems like a nice group of people, and very informative you all are at that! I've already learned enough about the guitar by these posts, and its not even hear yet! To kinda of "prepare" myself for the Petrucci, I decided to put some gauge 10's on my current guitar that I mainly write and record with just to see how I'd react to them after playing 9's since the beginning of picking up the instrument. To my surprise, within about 30 seconds, I found my new gauge, I adjust to it instantly, I like the added tension. So, I shall be restringing all my guitars with 10's, but maybe keep 9's on one or two. I know some people, many on these boards actually, have had a hard time adjusting to 10's and what not. Anyone else have an instant liking to 10's right away like I did? I thought it was strange I did, but everyone is different I guess.

I ordered it on March 19th 2005 from Guitar Center here in Connecticut, and exactly 4 weeks later (April 20th to be exact) I got a call back saying they spoke to EB and everything is going as planned and should be ready later on in May between the 20th and 30th. I was actually surprised b/c I was told 3 months. I'm curious if any of you have gotten them early, like in this case, almost a month earlier then scheduled?

At any rate, have a good one guys, and happy to be in the EB family. :)

Take Care,

Jeff

Well done - you'll love it. last time I considered a Petrucci, that was exactly what I was gonna order - I prefer the dot inlays over the shields, and the piezo has to be heard to be believed. A great guitar - enjoy :)

I think this has been asked before, but how do you find the clean sounds in the Petrucci (not counting piezo) - it was the one area that put me off buying one so I went with a Sil Special instead - any thoughts?

I don't own a pet but I thought the middle toggle position on it sounds really nice for clean tones. Exceptional, in fact.

Yep, the middle position gives you the inner coils of each humbucker, and gives you a Stratish clean - VERY clean, in fact.

I'll have to try one again - who knows, that could be my next guitar - I'll have to wean myself off my current PRS craving. I go through phases like this...

Jimmy,

As others have mentioned, the middle pickup position of the Petrucci yields a great clean sound. When you use any other position, you will need to roll off the volume a little to clean things up. The neck pickup can sound pretty cool when rolled back a hair, played clean with lotsa reverb.

I guess I'm just nervous because my EVH is great at rock and blues and awful at clean, so I am dubious about the clean sounds, especially bearing in mind that JP himself tends to rely on his piezo mix when playing clean. Next time I see one in a store, I'll give it a fair try and decide if it's what I want. :)

Yeah, I thought long and hard about it, and the shield inlays, I mean I think its just personal taste. I figured to spend what I was spending on this guitar, what's a little more for the shield inlays, but for me, I thought it was a bit too much in the looks department. For those who have them and love em, great, but just wasn't my taste, I'm so used to dots I guess! lol. Also, having the initials JP there when they aren't MY initials didn't seem to work for me either, :D . Granted, his signature is on the headstock, but still lol

I use both pickups (middle selection). And it sounds great, it will also depend on your amp as well, l use a 5150ii.

Hello there, I am in exactly the same position as you my friend. I have had my JP on order for 9 weeks now (only another 3 to go) and I am glad to be nearing the end of my wait. Mine is a fully loaded JP 6 in mystic dream with matching headstock and inlays. I think you'll be lucky to get it any earlier than the 12 weeks stated, but hey, the anticipation is part of the fun. The wait isnt really that bad just keep yourself occupied and dont think about it lol!!!! Congrats on your purchase anyway!!!

Glad to see im not the only one in agony Danjp, lol. I was surprised when Guitar Center called me a month ago and told me late May, 20th to the 30th, as opposed to late June (which is what I figured). Again, according to them, they spoke with EB and thats what they told him, so who knows, maybe its a slower time right now, and they are able to get it done a bit quicker, BUT if not, then it will arrive closer to my B-day, June 28th, so this might work out better (even though IM paying for it lol)

Don't get too excited until you get it in your hands. Every time I order a guitar, it always seems to take longer than first predictions. It is worth the wait
