No, not the punter. I guess I'm pretty impulsive but I bought a 89 Stingray from a Pitter and should get it in a week or so. Here's my thinkin on it. Love the look, have seen and heard Stingray's played in all types of music. Read alot about them. I want to give one a try before my GAS madness ends. Owned a G&L ASAT for a year or so but couldn't make the MFD tone work for me. I own two passive Fender Jazz basses. I'm thinking the Stingray pup will be not quite as aggressive as the MFD's but still give a little more of a modern sound. I'm pretty excited about checking it out. It's a beauty. Red w/ birdseye maple board. Worst case senario if it's not me, they seem to hold there value.
Please don't tell me 89 was a bad year for Stingrays. I was told 72 Fenders were hit and miss but mine has killer tone and worth every penny.
It's like waitin for Santa in May.

ooohh.. 89 is when they used razorblades for frets... some crazy idea about getting a better tone through highly shapened steel.

1989 is also when they used a drawing of a preamp instead of a real preamp.. helped to keep prices low during the great preamp drought of 1988-1992.

wait..what?

oh, no,

i've seen that bass, it's sweet looking, congrats!

You'll probably get a lot more replies when you post high quality, shimmering, tax-deductable pics of yer SR. Congrats on your purchase, though. 2 or 3 EQ?

Congrats! I've seen that bass and if it plays and sounds as good as it looks, you're in for a treat.

1989 was before they switched to what we commonly refer to as "unfinished" necks, so you prolly got a nice layer of poly on that sucker. I always did like the finish on those necks.

Which pickguard did you end up with? Wasn't there some funky art guard thing on it at one point?

jubjub, why wow Ohio? The only thing I can think of is the saying " why oh, why oh, did I ever leave Ohio" Actually I'm happy here... except in the winter. You're not a lineman are ya? chuckle, chuckle

Bovinehost.... I passed on the artwork cover unless it was thrown in the case as packing, so I'm getting white. Gregg said he thinks clear would be good for it as an option. I feel alot better buying from a hardcore pitter. I think ya have a much better chance of getting a keeper. The Jazz I got from Horace (1putt...) is a monster. Hope I like this Stingray as much.
