pulled the trigger last weds. on the cardinal red sparkle that drumcity has had for sale...it arrived on saturday, as fate would have it i had a gig that night, so the guitar pretty much went from the fed ex truck to the stage (but not before a couple family photos, complete with dog photobomb :)

the cardinal red sparkle finish looked great out of the box, but under the stage lights...omg. unbelievably awesome. many compliments on how cool it looked. as a bonus, the eyes on this neck are spectacular!

sorry for crappy cellphone pics, best i could do. i was hoping some gig pics would surface on FB that i could snatch, but none so far. someone took a few vids, but no way I'd post them here, clams and all...

Must be new? I've been gone for over 5 years.

I played out a *lot* when I was down there.... How our paths didn't cross is beyond me. Maybe they did?

Not that many rock guitarists there from what I remember.

well, i have only been playing out down here for about 5 years, so i was probably just getting started right about the time you were leaving. i imagine we are probably acquainted with a lot of the same people, although i dont personally know too many folks.

i think silverados has been there for quite awhile, although the ownership changed about a year ago. its real close to the island grill, if you know where that is. The band im in typically plays in effingham county and down in richmond hill. seems like most of the savannah gigs (city market especially) are locked down by the same few people, none of whom we have an in with. but its cool. we play out about twice a month, and thats about all i can handle anyway.

Wow - I really like the transition from the desert gold, to the autumn redrise, then to the cardinal red. What a set!!!

do you prefer the original over the other JP lines?
hi joe,

yeah, i do. i havent spent too much time with the other lines, but I've played a BFR and a majesty- and while they definitely have their advantages, the original model just seems to fit me the best. for me it is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played, and i dont think i can go back to a finished neck.

fwiw, i found the fret access on the majesty to be unparalleled and really out of this world- that was easily my favorite part. the other features are great too, but on the whole the original model is just perfect for me.

im still holding on to a sliver of hope that an original stratus blue sparkle jp6 will show up for sale some place...hey we all need to dream right?

Sean, WOW , as far as I know, Ernie was the only one that owned one of those, good luck on that search. Still miss and love the Autumn Red JP6.

Anyone hear from Ernie lately?
Can't remember him posting for a long while.
Probably close to 150 JP's by now for all we know

yeah, i know its a pipe dream, but thats ok. there are a few other finishes I'd really like too, and a rosewood neck would be splendid...so there are other, more tangible acquisitions in the future (hopefully!)

i did get to thinking, though- i remember the story (as retold on ernies jp webpage) about how the sparkles didn't go over well that year that BP debuted them at Namm, and he "had to write a big check to GC to clear all the sparkles" (i believe thats close to verbatim).this makes me wonder: what became of them? i have this fantasy of a forgotten warehouse full of stratus blue, autumn redrise, gremlin green etc. sparkly guitars just waiting to be rediscovered...

Sean, hahahahaha, if you ever met/meet Ernie, he is a super guy. I joined just after the EBMM sparkle phase, so for me it was completely new. Most of the ones I have or have had have all been second hand or NOS (my AL MM90's is). I remember talking to Ernie and he would goto great lengths to search for the few finished that he didn't have. At the time it was Midnight Blue (Which is my ultimate/favorite sparkle finish) and the original Red Sparkle. When ever I saw a JP in sparkle finish I'd ping Erine and give him a heads up. Been a very long time since he's posted here.

That's a great fantasy, cling to it, I'm sure that there are ones out there, you'll just need to comb the web looking for them.

PS, I had a Sterling bass in Midnight Blue and that's one of the reasons I know I love that color.
