Hey all

Off topic here but just picked up a Celestion V30 loaded Hughes and Kettner 4x12" to replace various Marshall cabs I've used in the past.

Massive difference!

If you play rock and haven't tried V30's, give them a go now!

Best upgrade I've made in years.:cool:
 
I use a Vintage 30 equipped Marshall 4x12 Slash signature cab and I prefer it over the standard cabinet with G 12 T 75 speakers.

I also have an old 2x12 Vox AC 30 extension cabinet. I replaced the original Goodman speakers with one Vintage 30 and one Greenback. That's a great combination as well! ;)
 
V30's is what they is and do what they do. I found them pretty easy to listen to with most amps and cabs, and also easy to mic for recording. They're forgiving speakers.

You won't get huge low end from them, and the highs are more high-mids. Their high-mid is predominant, making them cut through a mix without excessive volume. At least that's been my experience with them. My son's Marshall quad is loaded with them, and it sounds good, either with a DSL or Laney GH50 head.

I regret getting rid of all mine, gave my last one away. I think it's always cool to have at least one loaded V30 cab around.
 
I have 4 cabs loaded with them awsome!~ UNTIL I tried the eminence wizards EVEN better same sound more power handeling and $50 cheaper check em' out!I'm sticking with them for the future,but v30's are great too!
 
One of my favorite speaker too - V30!!! Which I prefer with all my Marshall amps.

Only exception however, is with my VHT 100/Cl head, with which I prefer the Fat Bottom (Emenience) P50e's in my 4X12. As mentioned above by Bruce, these bring out the LOW end!!!!

I've become a Wizard convert too. But have been using even more lately an Em Red White and Blues, which is less hi-fi and huge sounding than the Wizard, but sounds more round and Fendery. Good for smoothing the Voxy fiz from a Laney. I liked it at first and thought it broke in quickly, but am realizing it keeps getting better and better sounding, and it loves a good TS through it.
 
V30s work well with some amps. They have great crunch with solid tight bass. However with some amps they can have treble beam that is so harsh it will rip your scalp off. just my experience.

I've noticed this as well -- they don't take well at all to Fenders and similarly voiced amps. It's because the spiders are on the loose side -- if the amp doesn't have good damping, it can lose control of a V30 pretty easily. V30s aren't my favorite speaker, I prefer a sound that is focused in the lower midrange, because I can cut through a mix without feeling like I'm sounding harsh, and they have that upper-midrange thing going. With the right amp, though, they certainly have a sound.
 
V30 speaker?

Yes. I like 'em. Got one in my 112 cab from Dr Z. Sounds good with 6v6 and 6L6 amps. clean to light drive. heck, full on distortion and mayhem is cool. :):cool:

V30s are pretty cool, but as already stated always depending on the amp, cab and your style of music.
I just changed my Marshall cab back to its original G12t-75s because with my single channel, hot-rodded Marshal style head, the V30s were just too trebly...
Nevertheless, in Diezel cabs with the matching amps they're brilliant and my 2x12" cab likes them mucho, too...

However, my absolute fave is still the Hiwatt 4122 cab from 1973 with the original Fane speakers, but sadly - if those blow - you have a hard time finding replacements...

What speakers do you have in the Diezel (I know they offer the Celestions). I believe it's their own, but "who" makes them (Celestion?) What is the rating on those?

Also, on the "Fane" speakers, what are those rated at? I hardly ever see those cabs anywhere!!

Diezel's "own" speakers are Celestions, too.
From what I heard lately they are offering Celestion's G12K-100 as their custom speakers and word is out that they do some break-in on them before delivery...
Reason behind the decision was to deliver a cab that could withstand the peak impacts from the "Herbert" amplifier, that - featuring a 180 Watt (6xEL34) power stage - can easily kill a single 4x12" V30 cab when cranked...
I do have V30s as I "only" play over the smaller Diezel Einstein 100 head. My bandmate, who plays the Herbert head has 2 Diezel cabs, one frontloaded, one rearloaded, and he also chose the V30s over the "Diezel custom" speakers...personal taste...

The Fane speakers in my Hiwatt cab are all rated 50 Watt @ 16 Ohms.
Hiwatt was a classic British amp manufacturer and had their custom speakers made by Fane (British made, too.) Hiwatt has just been reintroduced to the market and they even do reissues of their classic amps. Fane didn't produce guitar speakers for a loooong time, but apparently they started again, since the new Hiwatt custom cabs are stated to feature Fane speakers again (pretty expensive !!!). The new Fanes are rated 100 Watts each at 16 Ohms, so they are a completely different pony than the classic ones.
The old Fanes have a fantastic classic Rock tone to them, but I must admit I have nothing I could name they are comparable with. They were designed to handle clean tones to high peaks but I can tell you they even handle high gain really well. The tonal spectrum is tremendous, but though a little "hi-fi", they still are classic rock machines.
Anything that's vintage Hiwatt & Fane is getting really rare these days, as they never produced Marshall's outputs and were really expensive. I do have a PDF copy of a 1973 Hiwatt catalog from Hiwatt's New York office. PM me if interested :)

The Webber Thames are a good approximation of original Fanes and easier to get a hold of as well.

I had a real hard time finding replacements when I blew one of my Hiwatt Fanes...
I still have to find a dealer in Germany that carries Weber speakers or can at least obtain some.
