Speculation about JP BFR Refret

This is something I've always wondered about:

If you had to do a refret on a JP BFR, how would you go about getting a good cosmetic result? It looks like there's poly over the fret ends. Wouldn't this tend to crack while removing/reinstalling frets? Would you sand and respray? Could it be done without witness lines?

Maybe there's a standard technique for guitars that have painted necks without binding?

send it in to EBMM for a refret... They do great work at a great price and they will make like new.

I'd gladly send my JP7 for a refret to EBMM, but the shipping from Poland would cost as much as refretting…
So I send it to a local luthier. He sanded off like 1-1,5 mm of poly to remove frets with no cracks. He didn't respray it. I'm not sure if that could be done partially, I think to get a nice result the whole neck would have to be repainted.

Anyway, now I have SS frets and I'm happy with the result. This is how it looks:

I had the nut replaced on my BFR, by EBMM. It looks great as you would expect their work to look. That said, in the right lighting and from the right angle, you can see the witness lines where new poly was sprayed around the nut. That's what made me curious about this.

I've got stainless frets, so it's probably irrelevant anyway.
