Hi,

Since I am looking for an EB Axis (no, never enough of EBMM's), I was wondering: is it possible to split the humbuckers on the Axis? The model with the three way switch?
I would like to change the volume pot to push-pull to change to single coil.
In that way you have a lot more possibilities to change your sound, you can have the single coil sound almost the same way as in the Axis SS.
And you do not have to drill in the nice wood  for another switch.

I do all 16 of mine it's a easy mod I use push pull pot on volume pull up coil tap push down back to full humbucker bliss! My tech does em ' for $40 with pots I do my own now the pots are $8 it's a 15 minute job as long as you have a solder gun and patience

Hi,

Thanks for the answers guys
I do the spliiting job on all my guitars myself,up for single coil, down for humbucking. I only have to push the button when I need a mind blowing solo sound.

Zoe, there are some schematics on the internet. You can find a schematic on the Seymour Duncan site (very neat). You have to be careful to take the right colour of the wires for splitting as the colours differ from brand to brand. It is important to use the right colour when splitting.

You can find a lot of info on GuitarElectronics.com, a very nice site.

Succes.

So what kind of sound are you getting from the split hums? How does it compare to a true SSS guitar like an AL or silo? Any chance of a demo clip?

Questions, questions! :)

I had it done on one of my Axis guitars, and I thought it did not really capture the full character of a true single coil - it sounded kind of flat.

Mind you, I am not a good judge - I don't like single coils!

it's really not a true single sound~ I mainly use it to clean up the sound with less output on clean sections or get a little faux spank of a single coil it's not bad but it really isn't a single voiced pickup to begin with so it's using what your dealt with to the fullest ,try it .it's a easy mod and who knows you may just like it??
