I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm stuck between these 2 basses and I would like to know the pro's and cons of owning each. and what does piezo do?
I was also wondering about the neck. I've noticed that the bongo has a painted neck. thank you for reading this.

You may find using the search feature helpful on this topic, but Ill give my two quick cents. You should play both and see which fits you better. If you want the StingRay/Sterling type of tone, go with the StingRay 5. If you want a StingRay on steriods tone go with the Bongo. I find the Bongo to be a bit more versatile. I own a Bongo 5, but do plan on also getting a StingRay 5. As for the painted neck. Its no problem. Not sticky like other necks. It has the same feel as other MusicMan basses to me.

I've played both quite a bit and I'm leaning toward the bongo. I just can't find one in a color I prefer without piezo. all of the guitar centers in my area have the same selection, black bogo w/piezo and black ice pick guard, or an orange one with out piezo. it's really annoying, I've tried other shops but I haven't been able to drive down to atlanta yet to check a pawnshop. if neone knows of a bongo in the atlanta/marietta ga area that is blue(any option) or black w/out piezo please contact me or reply.

thank you for reading.

Gotta be your personal choice. Play both and see which you like better. After buying my used SR5 fretless I joined this board and caught Bongo fever. Got a Bongo 5 H/SC and was convinced that I would never enjoy a bass more. Then I found a Trans Purple SR5 (GrapeRay) and had to have it. Now it has become my main bass. Something about that Ray sound..... :D

Wow, I'm not the only one that perfers my SR5 over my Bongo!

Yippeee!!! more for the rest of us :D

Hahahaha! My policy is to buy one new bass per year from now on. I just ordered a fretless Stingray, so I'm not even gonna go near a Bongo for several months :) Plus I still want a 63 RI precision Bass... I'm quite sure that a Bongo is in my future, though. So more for y'all for a while ;)

My SR 5 is just so good for me that I think I can pass on the Bongo GAS too. This one just fits. Got enough sound to play through even the biggest guitar hammering. Fingers like butter. Just one good bass......... I am happy.
