SR4 1983/1988 Differences between body,neck, etc

An unusual Stingray of this era cropped up on the forum before, about a year ago I think - a very unusual and flamboyant finish IIRC. It was explained by Big Poppa that MM basses of this era were made by Charvel Jackson and they made a number of specials for artists and the like. Sounds like you may have something of this type, perhaps.

Check out the inlays on the red one. They look like mother of pearl. Haven't seen that on any standard MM before. And the fretboard is exceptionally dark. Perhaps an ebony board?

Just noticed the it also has 4 dot markers past the 12th fret (an Ernie Ball feature). A pre-EB would only have 3.

As to the dot markers there´s a Cutlass I on Musicman.org (end of 1st Pic Gallery), that also has 4 dots past the 12Th fret.

Alex, it appears to be a Pre-EB neck.

At that time Ebony was used for fretless. Do you have a pic of the postion markers on the side of the neck at the 12th fret?

BTW only now did I notice that the dots on the 83 are positioned on the maple neck-on the 88 a"sandwiched" between the neck and the fretboard
