First off a big hi to everyone as its my first post.

So to get started i have a query-- I have been playing bass on and off for around 18 years. As it has been on and off I have never even bothered studying higher end basses and at best have only ever possessed lower-mid quality basses.
Now after all this time I am getting more serious about things and have decided to move a little more upmarket.

So after days of study on the net listening to samples and trying a few similar basses I finally settled on the beautiful SR5 20th Ann. But therein lies the problem.

After locating 1 I then find out a new Musicman cannot be shipped abroad. So I figured this is not a major problem I will just find one in the UK. Having found the official UK wholesaler I find the price in the UK is nearly $xxxx.

This seems like a huge mark up and puts the bass way out of my price range so i wondered if there was any other solution? I could of course get a flight but that is still adding quite alot on the price.

Any advice would be apprieciated.

Thanks
Chris

One option is to keep an eye out until a used one pops up in the "For Sale" sticky at the top of the forum, or on ebay.

Even though these basses are newly released, it will only be a matter of weeks before someone has to sell one to raise funds for something unexpected, GAS or whatever. For example, Dargie Delight models and 30th Anniversary Stingrays were being sold used in this forum while new ones were still in production at SLO.

So, if you're patient, you can buy a used one soon and have it shipped to the UK and save yourself $3000.

Chris,

I had to edit your post a bit. Since EBMM doesn't allow discount prices to be published by retailers, it makes sense that we not publish them here. I'm sure you didn't know - no harm, no foul.

This price differential between US and Europe has been discussed here, some might say over-discussed. (You can try using the "Search Forum" feature above to find some historical insight.)

Basically, you've already discovered that US retailers cannot ship overseas. This is part and parcel of the agreement each retailer signs.

The reason prices are higher 'over there' are many, just as British products are more expensive here in the US. (God forbid I should want a Wal.)

Try a search and see what you come up with, but your best bet is to contact forum member DaveB, who is a dealer in the UK and will be glad to talk to you and hook you up if he can.

And the 20th SR5 is a work of art. Completely and totally worth it.

Thanks very much for the advice and my apologies for the price mention. Didn't realise but it won't happen again.

I have heard a really good sound sample of the 20th HH and love the tone. Are there any other basses in the EBMM range that come close to that sound?

Thanks again
Chris

I have ordered a 20th SR5 HS from DaveB at Machinehead. I'm going down there in a couple of weeks to pick it up. I was talking to him on the phone last week and he has a couple of more 20ths in stock. Contact him and have a chat. He is very good. He doesn't visit the forum much these days, so if you PM him let me know and I'll send him a text to let him know you are trying to contact him.

Have you tried a Bongo(see my sig, I've also got a 5HS on order from Dave)? they are fantastic basses.

Cheers for that but they are just too expensive in the UK. Had a look at machinehead site and if i had that sort of cash i could fly to US get the 20th and a nice bongo and still have a little change!

I guess i am just gonna have to wait for someone to have a gas attack and put theirs up for sale. Patience and all that!

Thanks
Chris
