Hello Folks

I'm assuming that the wiring for 2006 single H SR5 would be that from 1987 schematic that states the following if you have the switch all the way to the right if you where looking down at it.

Coils 1&2 Parallel
Coil 1 (with phantom coil)
Coils 1+2 Series

And Not the current offering off

Coils 1&2 Parallel
Coil 1 + Series with coil 2 series with filter
Coils 1+2 Series

I ask this because the schematics from the Musicman.com under the products section for Stingray 5 indicates that the current offering is 2008 on, but there are basses that where built before 2008 that follow the schematic for the pickup selecting and the documention dates Jan 2008.:confused::rolleyes:

Bottom line:I looks like I'm picking up a SR5 H from 2006 and I hope it has the latter offering with the filter then just the single soil with and the phantom coil.

Thanks in advance.

2006 would be the former and not the latter. The "series with filter" setting did not show up until around March of 2008.

can you shed some light on the difference introduced in the new, post '08 wiring?

the older pre' 94 SR5s with the Alnico pup had a single coil mode (and a phantom coil of course) as are the following Ceramic versions of course. why is the change?

I think they introduced the "series with filter" setting in 2007 on the single-H 20th anniversary SR5, which had an alnico pickup. My guess is, it was decided that the "series with filter" setting sounded better than "single-coil with phantom" with the alnico pickup, so when the SR5 pickups changed from ceramic to alnico in 2008 they also changed the switch configuration. The Sterling 5, which has a ceramic pickup, still has the "single-coil with phantom" setting.

I really like the "Series with filter" sounds milestones better then the thin sounding "single-coil with phantom" IMHO.

Its the only think contemplating me getting a different Stingray 5 (but its the color and neck I want for a decent price).

If I could purchase and upgrade the preamp with that setting I would.
