I just recently ordered a SR5 from a store, and then when i checked the picture of the bass again, i noticed something weird. It is supposed to be a SR5 single humbucker, but it has the switch placement of a HH or HS and the battery placement of a HH or HS. Could this bass be a HH or HS with a hidden pickup or something, or what's the deal? Are they changing the placement of the switch and battery for all SR5's?

You mean like this one?

Musicman Stingray 5

Yeah, the battery box and switch positions have changed... but I think we can safely bet the farm that there is no hidden pickup under the hood. Well, okay, there is the third phantom coil, but that's been around for a long time.

Interesting, thanks for pointing this out. All of my 5's are older so I have not seen this. I wonder if the 20th will have this same layout.

yeah, they must have started changing them maybe? Does this mean that the bass i am ordering is just the newest possible version?

Looks like it has the new pickup cover shape too. I suppose that makes sense for them to change the SR5s like that, but if they start putting the new covers on single H stingrays and sterlings I will be upset. I like the old shape 100x more. Luckily, I doubt theyd do that. It makes sense for the sr5s, though, since they already had a different pickup shape, might as welll make it easier for themsleves to stop using that shape.
