Hi guys!
As you may remember, I've purchased a used BFR SR5HH. This day I've noticed that its G tuning key does not feel OK. The "elephant ear" of this tuning key shakes a bit. So sometimes it rattles like a snake when I play :D

The overall key mechanics looks pretty good except this "ear". Maybe you guys know the home solution or should I travel to the luthier?

is there any screw on the end to tighten the tuning key? Does it have the standard SR tuners, or the lightweight version?

The standard ones. So there are no screws on the end. And as far as I know the SR and Sterling basses are still produced with classic Shaller BMs.

Take the whole assembly off and shim it between the 'axle'
and the wood, on both sides of the worm screw. Motion in
others direction should be impossible due to string tension.

Thaz my take on this anywho. Acoarst, you should grasp
the tuning key and jerk it around some to see just which
direction allows any motion. You have tightened the big
central screw that hold the post to the round gear, yes ?

The "ear's" motion is up-down only for 0.5 mm. Yes, I've tightened any screws I have there)

Ans yes, it does not rattle when I hold the tuning key.

I assume by up-and-down you mean perpendicular to the
broad plane of the head stock, in which case I'd just shim
behind it as mentioned in earlier post. Old drum sticks are
a handy source of small scraps of hardwood for shimming.

My god I have to be blind) The "elephant ear" of this tuning key is bended a bit. So I guess I have to replace it. Is it possible and worth to ask CS to send the replacement overseas? Or should I go and just buy a Schaller tuning key? But there is no MM logo you know ;)

If all the parts are alike, and if nothing is wrong with the
framework that bears the MM logo, then no need to lose
the logo. Just replace the worm drive and tuning key and
store the rest of the new parts in case of a typhoon.
