OK, so I've had the SR5HH for over a year now and took it to practice and played it at home. Other than that, I aways just took my P bass to gigs because:

1) I was more comfortable with 4 strings at a live performance (being honest)
2) The SR5 is not cheap and did not want to have it stolen or broken, damaged.

Last night I took it out and WOW what a sound when playing out. Very nice tone and some compliments from the band members. I am happy that I finally got over that hump and now it will see more action.

Today I cleaned it and the strap because it smelled like an ashtray and I don't smoke and hate smoke.

Anyway, just wanted to share that.

good for you, i've also brought my SR5 on a gig this summer, my first with a 5er. It can be daunting, but so much fun.

I'm never really too bothered which bass i bring to a gig, whether it's my fiver or not, as long as i can go plunk plunk plunk along with the drummer then everybody's happy! Glad you got over the hump, they're meant to be played ;)

It's possible that some young, aspiring musician reading this board is having to ask one of their parents what this thread title means. No harshness, just saying. :)

I had exactly the same experience when I took my 'ball' out of church and into the bars (no smoking in Ontario bars though) . The SR5 sounds awesome in a band context once the levels start going up. That's were it belongs.

How did you like the neck 'H'?

Gig that bass more often man, it's gonna be frustrated if you don't do it.
Sure, it's going to have a few dings along the way but it's only gonna make it look cooler IMO.

I remember when I got my SR 5 I had to gig it right away... smoke, beer and all; I think deep down it liked it!
Had to use the B string as a thumbrest at first; it is hard to get used to a fiver but by the end of the night, I was going with a few notes onto the B.

I do use my B as the thumbrest which now I catch myself doing on my 4 string P too but it does not seem to affect my playing if I don't think about it.

The SR5 is beautiful and begging to be played out again,
