SS/HH Came Alive and Scared Me!!

Discovered a really great setup for my Axis SS tonight. I ran the guitar into an old Ibanez SD-9 Sonic distortion, then into a Visual Sounds H2O. Plugged it into a 72' NMV Super Reverb amp. Hell, it sounded so good that I was afraid if I shut it off, that sound might never come back. You know how that happens? Right? Anyway, just thought I'd pass this on to ya'll. This is the best setup I have found yet for this guitar. Thanks

Hey Note,

Is there a huge decrease in volume when you split the hums on yours when playing clean?

My Axis ss piezo hum looks fantastic and plays great but sounds only so so clean. Neck pickup is kinda honky, and splitting pups kills vol. It's so light and easy to play I'd like to make it work better for me.

I play thru line 6 flextone head and 4X12 cab.

Yes, my bridge p/u is much hotter by itself. Also sounds honky clean. I am tempted to take a dremell and lower that sucker a little. I don't have the piezo. I prefer my 57 ri strat for clean tones way more than the ss, but the axis rules for a distorted lead sound, and for thick rhythm work. I played it tonite with a cry baby, ts9, and the H2o pedal into a marshall 59slp ri and a 1960a vintage cab. sounded great, but like you said, not the best for clean. The split positions are indeed kinda weak.

I work my tube amps at slightly driven levels when playing at stage volumes, and I don't lose any volume when splitting the humbuckers, but the tone "cleans up" - one of the things that's always bugged me about the digital stuff is that's not the way it works, and dropping the guitar's output is almost an instant drop in perceived volume (whether the signal seems to "clean up" or not)... I actually have to roll my volume down below 6 to get a volume drop... At bedroom volumes - of course - the volume does drop when I switch to a split position...

Just my luck, most of the stuff I'm writing now more suited to clean with a bit of delay.

Gotta get back to distortion soon. More energy and mistakes not as noticeable! Plus it's nice being louder than the drummer (if you know what I mean).
