Hey boys and girls.

Is there a huge difference between the sound of the AL SSS and the Silo SSS???
I expect some differences due to body shape, etc... But the pups themselves?

Hey Foggy,

Overall, I find the ALs lower output and bit more "vintage" (I hate that term but it usually gets the point across). The Silo Spec seems a tad bassier to me as well, though I don't know if it's the p'ups or the body or both responsible for that.

The secret weapon of the AL, though, is the bridge single. As Poppa describes, it's a great hybrid between a strat and tele sound- just the right amount of twang on it. A killer p'up.

Thanks Jay!

The reason why I'm asking is because I want to get close to Buddy Guy's sound.
I know a lot of this is amp related. He uses the Cyber Twins and Bassmans. He rarely uses pedals.
So I want the guitar best suited for this.

Well, both are fine SSS axes, but the AL wins hands down for a great SSS tone, even with the maple board. I'm completely dying to play a rosewood board AL, it must be freakin sweet. The Silo Sp SSS sounds plenty good though, ill get one with trem one day as well. But the AL just sounds awesome every time, perfectly balanced pickups. You know you want one Foggy.

If ya want Buddy Guy tone- AL all the way dude!!!!!!!!!!! In fact the Blue AL that Jay sold me is an awesome tone machine, best SSS AL i have, its killer for blues.

The question now is then:

Would the mm90s be better over the SSS.
His current sig model has Lace Sensor Strat Pickups. Some of his older strats look to have EMG's? (sounds like it)
Again, being aware of the amp thing, mm90?

Ironically his sound does remind me of Luke playing a Luke.
I haven't tried one as of yet.
I had a guitar years ago that had EMGs. They were too muddy. It think it's part of the reason I gave up guitar for a decade.
I know the pups in the Luke are light years better than the crap I had.
Oh what to do!!!

Number 1# to sound like Buddy Guy you have to have his touch and attack and phrasing.

THe Albert lee is a strat killer with the bonus of the tele sound in the bridge pu

I do really need to upgrade my amp first. Otherwise I cannot hear any EBMM goodness properly. :)

I would say get the SSS Fogman just a more versatile Config ..i have never had a MM with THEIR 90's in so this is my gerneral experience with them..the 90's to me always sounded "tagged" or the same i guess no matter which i played and they seem darker and not as easy to shape sounds that I hear ....now i dont claim to be a shredder but if i was looking for that "sound" i would go with the SSS like BP said thick fat STRAT KILLER tone WITH A TELE REAREND!
