Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a St. Vincent guitar in stealth black on eBay. Unfortunately the guy who sold it messed around with the pick up heights of the guitar. As you can imagine the guitar sounds awful right now. I couldn't find any numbers for pickup height. Does anyone have correct numbers for the pickup height? Also the low e string sounds kind of dull and muted even though bridge and nut appear perfectly fine. If I can't figure out the e string problem by myself a luthier will fix it. So my main concern is the pickup height. I mailed the Ernie Ball support but never received an answer. So any kind of help will be much appreciated

Hi and welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your new guitar!

Factory setting for the pickups are neck 6/32", middle 5/32", and bridge 4/32" (4.75 mm, 4.0 mm, and 3.2 mm respectively) measured from the bottom of the open E strings to the pickups.

Forum tradition is that guitar does not exist without photos. :)

Thank you very much! This helps a lot 🙏

Right now the guitar is waiting on my workbench to be fixed. I took some pictures on the day of its arrival. There you go:

On the first picture you can see how it was boxed when I received it. Even though the guitar was inside the Sterling Gigbag and there were loads of styrofoam and blankets, it arrived with a broken D string - as you see on the second picture.
So I quickly cleaned and oiled the fretboard, did some minor truss rod adjustment, restringed it and fixed the intonation. Only the pickups are left and the small issue with the muted lower E String. Thanks to your help I'm confident that the pickups will be fixed in no time. The lower E String is also not a big issue. If I can't fix it by myself then I'll ask a luthier. But I think I'll be able to figure something out with the E string. Since the whole pandemic started I really got into setting up and fixing my guitars and basses on my own.
