I know there's a lot of threads on this, but what is the difference between the stallion and the normal jps? Is there something spectacular that's going to make this ultimate petrucci model?

I can't wai to see it although the upper fret access on my JPX and BFR leaves nothing to be desired.

I didnt want to sound negative with the thread, but just had some curiosity. There's been so many models of the jp guitar. I had a jpx and sold with the intention of getting a jpxi, but now I'm holding off for this. I just want to make sure I get the super mega ultimate petrucci guitar with lasers and photon cannons
... That's not too much to ask for right?!?

I am not sure a be all end all JP will ever exsist. JP apperently loves to try new things and experiment with what ever new idea come to his head. He happens to have a relationship with a Company full of crazy engineers who love that stuff and are more than willing to go on these creative trips with him. Every JP is the be all end all because he never makes one thinking my goal is to get rid of this in a year. 12 years ago he would have never dreamed of the JPX. My ultimate JP would be a JPX either roaseted or normal maple neck ebony fret board but with a vintage trem. I doubt it will ever happen but not impossible. If you like what is out there get it and play it. If you keep waiting for the "ultimate" you will wait on the sidelines out of fear that the true ultimate is the next one that can come out at any time

It's also not to say that all the others are yesterday's news. I still love my standard loaded JP6, it's just an amazing instrument!

It's like my issue with Apple... as soon as i get a new iPhone, it seems like the next one is just around the corner! But then I look at my current iPhone and say, damn, this is such a good phone, it does everything I need it to do plus more- why am I mad?

Similar with guitars! If you love a guitar, then you love it, but guitars don't go out of date!

It's only evolution to fit JP likings, I don't see each new JP to "kill" the others.
You have a version for unfinished neck, a BFR version with body colors, a JPX chambered with another radius, a JPXI with bigger frets, other radius etc...
So, it's a matter of YOUR tastes, even more because of the pickups that are the same since the BFR.
I.E. I love the unfinished basic neck.

I am secretly hoping this neck is unfinished. . . Played an original yesterday, and just really miss that feel. Plus, it was a Dargie, so that didn't suck, either. . .

I have to respectfully disagree. A rapid release cycle will surely diminish the resale value the same way it is done with electronics for example. If value is my goal I will rather get a model which is less likely to change (such as 20th anniversary, Axis or Silo) instead of something which most likely will be superseded by the next big thing in 6-12 months.

Except with JP guitars I don't think of it as superseded. It's an evolution, or even variations on a theme. The new models are not lower quality or lower spec. They do all the same things the previous ones did and just as well. I don't know how strongly the electronics analogy holds.
