Having spent a lot more time on the lower side of gain these past few months, I was getting increasingly frustrated with my JP6's tones. Considering this guitar and I share the same DOB, just 21 years apart, I was VERY reluctant to even think of selling it.

I thought a pup change might work, though I had no clue what I should have changed it to. I wanted something bigger and smoother than the existing N2/SS combo, but wasn't too sure what would work. So I just took a leap of faith, and tried out JP's new combo.

I was stoked! The new pups were surprisingly exactly what I was after!!! They are big sounding, very creamy, and have a good dose of mids (which was what was missing from the previous set, yes, even the neck pup)

Here's my version of State Of Grace, recorded with the new pups. LOVING those tones!!!!

P.S. I'm glad these gave me a great excuse to do a cover of State Of Grace, which is something I've been dying to do since LTE1 first came out. I was almost going to play this with a very talented pianist at a Christmas performance one year. Alas, we lost her to cancer that very year, and I never got to do it. And I probably never will too, since I've not come across another pianist that I have been able to share that connection with. That was many many years ago, and this is still the only song today that never fails to remind me of her. RIP Louise...

Great tune. It was used as a backing track to a video collage that my family did for my Dad's funeral a few years ago. Everyone who attended now thinks of my Dad whenever they hear it.

Lionel, great choice on the pickups!! The CL reminds me of the Norton p/u that I use!!

You can hear the "ping" - gotta have the "ping"!!

Ping? What ping? You mean that wet attack on the CL? I think that's attributed more to the V-Picks I use. Every pickup I use has that attack.

The CL is really the deal-maker here. I never expected a high output pup to sound so smooth and organic. DiMarzio says it's not a screamer, but I think it's pretty obvious it can scream it's head off.:D

Great tune man!

I'll probably get knocked around for saying this, but that's the first time I've heard a tone that I actually enjoyed coming out of a JP. The ones I've played sounded kind of flat dry to my ear. Yours sounded very rich and soulful. What amp were you using on that recording?

Beautiful rendition by the way.

~Bob

That "amp" was a blackface emulator on a podxtlive. The distortion were from my real pedals, a hardwire valve distortion and a ts808hw set to "0".

The pickups had a healthy dose of mids despite the amp and the SC2 not having much mids. I find those to be a good pairing.
