I thought it was moses who supplied the necks on the 100 NAMM basses. Or maybe it was just them who made the necks for the old cutlass

Nope on both counts.

Status made the necks for the NAMM basses...

Modulus made the necks for the Cutlass.

Moses can, I believe, supply retro-fit necks for MMs, but they have never been involved in an official MM product (AFAIK)

what difference will it make in terms of sound? I have a Black SUB, with neck painted black but am interested in these necks?

Gav,

Got my Status equipped stingray back over the w/e.

Looks very different and very impressive (according to the wife).

Will take some photos tonite.

The neck feels chunkier than the '87 neck it replaced but feels the same as the neck on the '77. Though am told is the same dimensions as old neck - except at headstock end where it is noticeably different (profile)

The frets are jumbo style. Not sure if you can order the type you want.

The graphite weave is subtle - can only really see it on back of neck, not on headstock. Neck construction is very impressive indeed - high quality all the way.

Fretboard feels and looks flatter than old neck. Reminds me of a Vigier which I used to play.

Soundwise, it is quite different. The stingray is a 3EQ which definitely has less bass than the 2EQ '77. Has a bright uniform sound. Need to boost bass a lot to get the sound I like. Also need to boost mid a bit, before I used to cut a tad. If cut sounds too thin. Overall it sounds very clear and defined. Dead spots are gone. Sustain perhaps marginally better.

Action wise its low, but it can go lower. Not yet sure how much I can adjust trussrod - will probably take it back to tech after playing for a while, for minor changes.

The neck fits very well in body but makes tiny audible creaks when you move bass. Not sure if this is normal

Overall I am very pleased - but I need to play it a lot more. Its quite different from a normal stingray.

PS : Old neck date is 19 Oct 1987 for your website.

Thanks. Can you give the serial# and description. Also, is there a decal on the rear of the headstock ("Made in San Luis Obispo etc etc")?

Gav,

Its 26594 and it does have the San Obispo on back.

You have the photo already on your webpage (pitter = Uncle Tommy III, the name I use on the dudepit).

How audible? Have you tried recording with it yet?

Still, great way to salvage a great bass

Gav, got some photos but they're above the EB file size limit. Don't know how to shrink them. Can you host them ? Or do you want them emailed ?

From playing again last nite, sound is definitely brighter than with the wooden neck. Can't boost treble too much. However from comparing recordings with wooden neck, the sound is not significantly different.

Neck has some give but less than wooden neck.

The audible creak is more of a tiny squeak when I lift bass by neck and move it.

That SR looks a lot better now with the dark neck. Excellence. From what Kenito said, it seems to be more for seekers of the modern tone?
