Well

Got a call from Musicman yesterday and was told that the Stealth Bongo does will not ship with the piezo option. The matte finish will not work with the piezo bridge
electronics for some reason. The person that ordered it for me did not know before the sale. So I will go ahead with the original Saphire black w/tort guard
inspired by Bovine or was that Monkeee?....not sure.

Damn--that's a shame. Piezos can be fickle things, but I couldn't imagine my fretless Bongo without them. I think you made the right choice.

I bought a tort guard for my Black Sapphire Bongo, and then traded it to Jack for his white pearl pickguard. So, he currently has the Black Sapphire Bongo with a tort guard, assuming he's using it at the moment.

Go ahead and give him the credit for the inspiration, though--Jack simply doesn't get enough attention around here, and I'd hate for him to feel left out. :D

Should look something like this without the borg pickup, or speedbumps on the fretboard.

Heh heh. I do still have that pickguard on that bass, and will use it tonight for a little songwriting/recording session.

Did I tell you I recorded "Tiger By The Tail" with a Bongo 5? Yes, I got some skeptical looks but only until someone hit playback.

It actually isn't the finish, it is the black plated bridge that causes the problems. BTW it isn't a matte finish, it is a satin finish.

I know this thread is VERY old, but better to revive instead of starting a new 1. (i guess)

Did some searching @ the Bass Central store and I saw that the Stealth JP7 IS available with piezo.

Why does the guitar have piezo?

Different bridge?

I was practicing last night with headpones thinking how much I like blending the piezos with the magnetic pickups for the added definition to the notes when using flatwounds. To be honest, if you're using roundwounds and dial more hi mids you can get somewhat close to the sound, especially in a band situation.

You can't go wrong either way imho.

I plan on getting a stealth Bongo fretless even without the Piezo, which I have and use on my current Bongo, it will still be an awesome sounding bass. ;)

No fretless stealth. I know. But why does the stealth guitar have piezo and the bass doesn't?

The saddles on the piezo JP guitar are of a very different design than the saddles on a piezo bass, and that very design may not allow the black plating to take place. To a lesser extent, it may also be due to the fact that an overwhelming majority of John Petrucci guitars ship with a piezo, while a piezo on a bass is much less common.

Ah.
Haven't thought about the differences in saddle design. mmmmm
You are probably right. It makes sense.

Thank you.

It's just a shame it doesn't come with a piezo then!
