Does anybody have concerns about the neck pup placement for slap playing? I didn't get a chance to play one yet. I wasn't concerned about ordering one without playing it first becuase I like my Sterling 4H so much. I ordered a Sterling 5HS and it should be in soon, but I had considered the HH until I noticed the spacing between the neck and the neck pup. I went with the HS becuse there's a little more room in there. Since we're all familiar with the SR H and the good old J and P bass where this is a non-issue, I was curious about this situation. It looks like this is a non-issue on the SR HH, as there is more space between the pup and neck. I'll probably order a Sterling 5HH fretless becuase I don't slap on a fretless anyway - and there will be more tones available with the HH. So, anyone who has had the chance to play the Sterling 5HH, please share your thoughts - thanks!

the spacing on an HH Sterling is tigher but its doable. i was able to get used to it pretty quickly and its a non issue for me but YMMV

to clarify: there's ZERO problem slapping.... the narrow space has an affect when popping; when you try to dig in and grab the string.

I should have specified - yeah, I meant slapping and popping when I said slapping, era, popping being the trick when trying to grab the string with the tighter spacing, so my assumption was correct when I ordered the HS. I have a feeling I'll be ordering several of these, so I'll try a fretless HH and then a fretted HH at some point - and maybe a H too. I was a big fan of the Sabre and the Sterling is the next best thing - and now with the 5, I have a lot of G.A.S. lately.

The Sterling 5 HH isn't any different than the Sterling 4 HH as far as pickup placement. Have you been able to find a 4-string HH to try?

I'll have to find one - I wasn't thinking about the fact that the pup placement is the same on the Sterling 4 - doh! I have the 5 on my brain because I'm waiting impatiently to take delivery on one - should be this week.

Isn't the single coil in the same spot as the neckmost coil of the humbucker? I'm pretty sure that's how it is with Bongos, at least. Therefore causing no difference at all in terms of spacing between pickup and fretboard?
