Just checked out a new Sterling 4 string at my loacal GC. I loved it. I'm thinking of getting one in the near future. Any downside to theses instruments. :D

I too played a Sterling at GC, that was it I am hooked. As a matter of fact I bought one used from GC Hollywood last week it should be here Wednesday.

To answer your question I have yet to find a downside to the Sterling. They play great and sound amazing...I think you will be hard pressed to buy a better bass.

I am thinking about ordering a new one from Musicians Friend, they are running a promo thru today, I think the price of a new Sterling was a bit under $1200.00 with case, the only drawback was that the only color they carry is blue.

Count me in. I am currently assembling a J bass fretless from Warmoth parts. Once completed (and I get this build-a-bass obsession out of my system) I am most definetely moving on towards Ernie Ball MusicMan. The first will be the Sterling. One humbucker, one single coil, transluscent orange finish. :D

Yesh there is a downside I can think of.

When you put the first chip in the paint you will feel like crap for weeks :(

Oh, and one more thing, it doesn't come with Ernieball straplocks.

IMHO tuning machines are a bit heavy for the downsized head and I don't like the ceramic pickup.

The small body is perfect for me and the neck is simply the best I've ever played.

Got two 93 Sterlings and since then they become my main basses.

Replaced the stock tuning machines for Hipshot Ultralites and the PUs for the Nordstrand MM4.3.

Killer upgrades!!

My 2 cents

The only downside,if you can call it that,is that if you like them as much as some of us,you'l want another. Then it's a fretless, then a 5 string, then a different pickup configuration. It never ends.Look at my signature. It started with the black maple 4 string.
