Hello Everybody: I was looking for a musicman sterling black onyx and saw one on the internet at basscentral.com I called the store and they told me they had one in stock for 2500 shipped. is it worth paying that much? is it a good investment? or should i go for a normal sterling? thanks!

Haven't played one but for that kind of money, I would figure it would be a keeper for life. Think of it in that context and ask the question to yourself in the bathroom mirror while you're brushing your teeth and see if you get a stronger answer.

Hope this helps.

The last couple I saw for sale were about half that price. They aren't that common, so an increase in value is to be expected, but that seems pretty steep.

That's the highest price I've heard of for any Music Man bass - including the 100th NAMM Anniversary, 25th Anniversary and all but the most mint pre-EB bass.

If it's what you really want, you should be able to justify it - but the Bass Central prices are usually top dollar.

Ping Norris Todd...he wanted to trade it but I had no clue what to offer for it and I think he's just gonna pay me off in cash on the Dingy Super J.

<---Trades just confuse the poop out of me and just make more work for me to sell off. Case in point is the Waterstone 12 string I just got in last night. No clue what to do with this thing!!

I guess it is the old supply and demand EB only made 150 of those basses so in theory they should go up if kept in good condition

I don't need the Onyx, it was BASSMAN15

I was just making a little side comment about Steve coming in to save the day.

The problem I have with trades is that generally customers want my lowest price on a new bass, then toss a trade deal into the mix after they've gotten my lowest "cash" price on something wanting top "retail used" trade credit.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Why should I go through the process of unpacking, cleaning up, photographing, listing, selling, packing and reshipping the trade-in just to break even??

Time is money folks. Just sell it yourself.
