Hello Fellow Ernie Ballians.
I have just traded my Rickenbacker 4003 bass for a mint Musicman Sterling
Black Onyx Number 132 of 150.
As they only made these in 2002 and I couldn't replace it with a new one, what insurance value
would I put on it?. I am guessing at about £1500. Would this be about right??

I'm not sure where you are located at but in American dollars, I would insure that bass for around $1,200.00. Very nice bass by the way as well. Congratulations on it. Post up some pics when you get the chance.

Blunderthumbs - remember dollar value is very similar to £ value in instrument terms - so following Jaydawg's advice, about £1200. However, it was me I would insure to enable replacement with a new bass in the UK - say based on the price of a natural bodied one (which has a price uplift based on the colour, as the black onyx did). The closest you could replace it with would be a stealth black one (also v cool).

Likewise, it'd be good to see some pics.

If you post your bass's serial number details in the sticky tread at the top of the page, they'll give you details of manufacture date etc.

Thanks for the info.
As soon as I get some new batteries in my camera I will post some pics up on here.

Those are great basses. I still have mine and it is a favorite. I may be mistaken, but I think that was the first delving into custom shop runs for the public other than the NAMM anniversary bass. Got mine from J.D. at Corner in Nashville, believe you me, he knows Music Man basses!

Enjoy it, they do not come up very often.
