I purchased a Sterling HS several months ago. I do not really like the hardshell cases and saved money by buying it without the supplied case. My bass does not travel. I have kept in in an old gig bag. I'm at the point where I would like to replace the gig bag with another nicer gig bag or hybrid type case.

Are any of you familiar with the Tribal Planet GX15 gig bag? It looks like a very nice, reasonable priced gig bag. They are sold on-line by the Bass Exchange in California. BTW, is that a good outfit to order from?

Also, does anyone have experience with the Gator polyfoam bass case?

I looking for a sub $75 gig-bag or hybrid case for my Sterling. Both of the above mentioned cases have a neck support. Spending more is not an option for me. Are there any other good options in that price range?

Thanks,

Ken

Bought the MM SKB Case

:) After looking at everything I decided to go to Guitar Center and see if they had any of the SKB Sterling cases left. They happened to have the one, with box, that my Sterling was shipped in. I bought it. I had to cut corners when I bought my Sterling and not get the case. Now I have the case. Those cases are very well made. Yeah!

P.S. The CG guys in Central Dallas are great to work with.

Gig bag options? Well let's see a handle, maybe a pocket or two and a shoulder strap sometimes comes in handy. Leather is a nice option and that furry/hairy stuff inside is way cool. Remote zipper locks and a microwave transponder tracking system are great if you don’t live around an airport. :D

Glad you got the SKB Sterling case, that IS a great option. Enjoy your bass!

I like the RockBag by Warwick. It has two niced-sized pockets for holding things like cords and notebooks, and has a strap to tie the neck down so the bass doesn't slide around inside. It costs about $60 or so. Also, it is made so it stands up by itself when leaned against the wall. It's a pretty well made gig bag that doesn't cost a lot.

I bought one of those double gig bags (two basses, one bag) from a guy on another bass board, but they never were delivered (got lost in the mail I guess). Since then I've given up on the idea of gig bags and have gotten used to hauling around the hard shells. At least I know that my favorite basses are secure when I gig.

Gig bags are lighter, less expensive, and easier to carry, but peace of mind is priceless.

Road Runner

I use the $39.00 Road Runner bass gig bag (red and black) from GC for my Sterling often (and I have the Sterling OHSC). It's actually a very nice bag - protective, roomy, lots of pockets, and well constructed. GC and MF almost always have them in stock and they're really affordable. I don't use the HSC unless I'm going to a gig where I know the handling will be rough in the load in and out.

I use the Rockbag by Warwick. They work great for my Bongos. They have an internal strap to hold the neck so the bass doesn't flop around, which is nice. Also, they stand up by themselves when leaned against the wall.

I believe EBMM had a gig bag at one time, but I don't know if they still make them.
