I just purchased a sterling jp100d and love it. But, I watched a demo on YouTube and the guitar is supposed to be wired so that when the 3way switch is in the middle position, just the two inside coils are activated. Is this true? Mine is not wired that way. The wires for the inside coils are soldered together. I think I know how to wire it so that only the inside coils work in the middle position. Thanks for any help.

Stock from the factory it is wired full humbucker in all three positions. The black and white wires are supposed to be soldered together and capped off with shrink tubing, the red to the pickup selector, and the green and bare wires soldered together and grounded.

Sounds like it was modified, but is easily returned to stock as long as they are not cut too short.

To expand on what Brian said above, the SBMM version is factory wired as he described, while the EBMM factory version has the inner coils active in the middle position. Over the past 5-6 years we have modified dozens of SBMM JP models to have the EBMM wiring, which necessitates the use of the DiMarzio EP1111 toggle or EBMM part M05416. The standard toggle in the SBMM JP100D will not let you get this wiring. The guitar in the video was probably modified with one of the toggle switches listed to achieve the wiring mentioned.

I modded my JP6 so the full HH were active in all 3 toggle positions. Did this because of the designed lower output from the split coils, which had noticeable volume decrease in the middle position.

You know what, I've been so lazy the last few days I have not taken off the backplate and checked the wiring of my JP 6 vs. the schematic CS gave me, but I'm now convinced that the previous owner (even though it's a "mint" open box/supposedly under warranty) moded this. That's what is happening here.

Makes sense, but I still don't understand the tone knob cutting off the volume. Maybe tomorrow I'll un-lazy my butt and check for certain.

That is 100% correct, we have done many of these swaps/upgrades as well.
