I bought a Sterling Lk100D , because it was cheaper and was the Luke III version , when My Luke II needed fret work [ btw you can send your neck back to EBMM for refreting , I learned this the hard way after someone local ruined mine ] and after seeing a thread rave about them, I began to wonder if mine was a knock off ? [ as some people were suggesting ]
it was ok but not nearly as good as my Luke II , the sterling I have is heavy , the pick ups don't seem to be anything special and the body is not the exact same as my Luke II

anyway to tell is it is fake ?

If somebody’s going to the hassle of making a fake, they don’t usually go for the lower priced model line...

Contact customer service with the serial number and they’ll tell you original configuration.

I'd played another that was heavy as well, I didn't think it was a fake, but the people raving about them seemed to think so because I didn't love it , in contract to my Luke II which , until I wore the frets out was the best gtr I've owned
I'm not paying photobucket their extortion fee, what's the best easiest way to post images ?
tia for the replies!

The Sterling LK100D (H-H) and the EBMM Luke II (H-S-S) are a bit different from one another. The Sterling LK100D in its original configuration would have the same DiMarzio Transitions as in the EBMM Luke III (but a different preamp), and very similar body dimensions. The body of the LIII is slightly larger than the older EBMM Luke II (which had EMG pickups). The Sterling line of instruments are made overseas with slightly different measurements and components, and are offered at a much lower pricepoint than the USA-made EBMM versions.

Sounds like you're comparing a MM luke with a Sterling (SBMM) Luke?
If so, yeah, there are going to be differences....

No, I'm trying to understand how people can rave about the sterling's saying they are almost as good
when that's not my perception. It's almost the Emperor's new clothes, If you don't love it you must not
know what you're talking about!
the body is a little more clunky [ and way heavy ] and not as sleek it's fun to have a different p/u config but
not even that cheap for an off shore gtr
eventually I'll get the real thing and hope to not lose too much on the sterling

Very old thread...But, sold my EBMM LIII in favor of my SbMM LK100D because the neck was a better fit for my hand. That guitar just screams and is my #1. It is a bit heavier than the EBMM was. I bought a second SbMM Lk100D, but is was too heavy, so I sold it...it did sound just as good though. The Dimarzio Transition pups are very expressive and harmonic.
