My band had a gig last night. I recently acquired a 7ender J, and had been using it the last few gigs (always want to try out the new toys). I had brought it and my Sterling 5H for last night's gig, thinking the Sterling would be the backup. When I started tuning, a friend of the band who also happens to be a long time sound guy says very enthusiastically, "alright, you brought back the Music Man!". So I started talking to him about it, and he was telling me how much better it sounds in the audience than the J. More pronounced, tight, growly, etc. I was so happy to hear this. I played that baby all night, and I'm not looking back. If you haven't tried a Sterling, you're missing out!

Yeah, i had the same problem with the J. Just no character for most of what we play. It does what it does well but the Sterling covers WAY more ground

Yeah, I've seen a number of guys that sounded good with them, but it just doesn't fit my needs. I like playing it, the neck is thin, which I like. But the Sterling has such a bigger sound and sits better in the mix.
