Sterling neck prejudice?

Try as I might, I am having difficulty going from my beloved and sacred
Sterling neck to a Stingray. I want to add to my stable but the SR does not fit as
nice for me. Perhaps I should just get another Sterling.
Anybody else "suffer" from this ailment.

One of the only things I didnt like about deciding to only play 5 string, was the departure from the Sterling neck.

Dont get me wrong the StingRay 5 plays great, but IMO there simply isnt a better playing neck than the Sterling neck. Period.

Maybe you could wait until the new models come out and add a Dual H or H/SC Sterling to the stable.

I frequently visit the local GC and demo the MM Basses. Bongo, SR and SR5, all
outstanding products. But, none of them comes close to the feel for me. Major kudos EB on the design.

i remember the first time I went to a GC with the "im leaving w/ an Ernie Ball today" mindset. so i get there and grab a Stingray and a Sterling off the wall and set em down to do my A vs B. the Stingray went first ... and i loved it. Then i grabbed the Sterling and played and realized that i didnt know what love was until then. LoL. I played the Sterling for a while then grabbed the SR4 again for comparisson and after 2 notes thought - "yup, the Sterling it is".

So ya the Sterlng neck is just perfect for me. W/ that said tho, i did later buy an SR4 and i still have it and love it too. the adjustment from one to the other isnt that bad if you actually have both and play 'em both. but if you only play one for a month or so then the other then youre hands do get a bit confused. If you want a Ray - i say get one. Your hands will figure things out as long as you dont spend too much time away from the other bass.

Never seen a Sterling in the local shop. Sure glad the SR5 was there for me as I feel the same about the neck on it.

I am now scared to try a Sterling since I said no more 4 stringers for me.

Sounds to me like you have your shopping down pat.

Funny - went through the same routine - also at GC...

Came real close to walking out with a Stingray because they had one in stock with the features I wanted, but that Sterling neck...

Ended-up at an alternate dealer and still placed a special order to get it just right - well worth the wait!

so the best part of the story is that when i was at work i thought - "ok ill go to guitar center on the way home. IF they have a Sterling w/ black PG, Blue Dawn finish, maple, board and non-matching headstock - then ill buy it". and there it was. i did try n be a godo shopper and compare it to a ray but ultimately my pipe dream came true ... that bass was meant to be mine. LoL

Until the Bongos came along, I often thought to myself (and said to others, as I recall) that the Sterling had the best production neck in the world.

I have had a number of Sterlings and they were all amazing basses, but I found myself walking out the door with Stingrays. I've never quite figured that one out, but it may be something to do with the size of the bodies.

Now that we have Bongos, though, I might have to reconsider my oft-stated belief that the Sterling has the best production neck in the world....

WTF, give me a Stingray or a Sterling or a Bongo and I'm still happier than a pig in whatever it is pigs are happy in.

Would a Sterling neck fit a pre-EB Sabre? It's already fitted with a Modulus graphite neck (that's the way I got it from "lowfreq65"; a local), but I want a vintage bass like mine to sound like a vintage bass with a real wood neck.

I'd be hard-pressed to be able to find an actual Sabre neck for sale.

Mmm yeah the sterling neck suckered me in, tried warwicks/fenders but just kept drooling over the sterling... I liked the modulus I tried but for the extra money on top of the sterling it didn't compete!!

The Sterling neck is what has got me all excited about a Sterling 5-string...as a Jazz bass owner, with a HH Sterling on order.....I'm thinking my Fender might go bye bye if the Sterling 5 becomes reality.
